We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Sonera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always shown interest in all forms of art. It wasn’t until I was a teenager though when I realized that creating and collaborating with people to make art was my absolute passion and want I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I felt as though being a creative individual was my calling and my life would be boring without creating! It’s who I am!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I realized fairly young that pursuing photography was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was definitely a hard decision to transition from photography being a “hobby” into something I wanted to do as a career. I had lots of self doubt and insecurities about my photographs. The photography industry was so daunting to me; I always wondered if I would ever make work that I was proud of. As I started to develop my own photographic style, I started to become more confident and secure in my art. I photographed everything and anything falling more and more in love with the medium. It eventually got to the point where I truly knew that this was my passion and who I was. Collaboration was and still is something that is super important in my practice; I am always working on some sort of project with other talented creatives. I still feel like I’m at the tip of the iceberg when it comes to photography! I am always getting better and becoming more knowledgeable. I think it has been all worth it!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Cabbagetown is one of my favorite hidden gems of Atlanta! There is such a cute grocery store/burger joint called Little’s food store that has been around since 1929! I always order the classic burger with fries and a Dr. Pepper. Next to it is an adorable outdoor sitting area; the place is so cozy and welcoming. The beautiful brightly houses and scenic murals make for a great walk after eating.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my mom, Vivian, who has always given me a creative outlet growing up and my biggest supporter.
