Meet Skye Smith: Media Personality

We had the good fortune of connecting with Skye Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Skye, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued a creative career due to the fact that I know I tend to get bored with mundane tasks. My thought process is creative. I have an incredible imagination and working in the regular business realm would drive me absolutely bananas. I’m a free spirit and routine and basic just isn’t in my vocabulary.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been in the Journalism realm since my college days.. way back when… The key is getting that one opportunity, you have to be ready to walk thru the door when it opens. There is no time to get ready! When I started out hosting the (back then) TV show, I had a toddler. If I couldn’t find anyone to keep her, she would tag along with me. I was also working full-time in radio. My whole career has been a juggling act. I a firm believer that you make time for the things that are important to you. Along the way, I have learned to accept criticism and glean from it. How can I be better on my next interview? Sometimes it is hard for us to accept criticism positively, but once we learn to not take things personal, it’s so much easier to process it and use it to our advantage. I want the world to know that I am a hard worker and will always strive to be the best me I can possible be. I will always, always try to help someone get ahead and become a better person as well.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The beltline is a great spot for walking! I also love hanging out at the James Room on the Beltline as well! Intermezzo is my favorite spot for tea. Taco Tuesday is great over at the Red Pepper Taqueria in Brookhaven. Since I’m a Jeeper, there is nothing like riding around ATL with the top down at night! Everything is light up downtown.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to Carmen Simmons, ultimate media content boss lady! She is the creator of N’Style Atlanta, N’Style Atlanta Un-Cut, CEO of Girl Six Media and Invisible Ink Ent. We met nearly 2 decades ago, when she asked me if I was interested in becoming a host for Urban Runway TV on People TV. Of course I said sure and the rest is history! We’ve interviewed countless world known celebrities, music artists and media moguls. We’ve filmed a reality show focused on the N’Style Team. We’ve launched beauty and apparel divisions. We have now expanded from on-line content to streaming on Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
