We had the good fortune of connecting with Sistas Bonafide and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sistas, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
When results are not reflecting the efforts of your hard work, it is so easy to let negative thoughts take over,
Questioning your self-worth, abilities, and achievements are all a part of the process. It is so easy to get caught up in not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, so you’re constantly having to remind yourself of your why – and survive it. We feel it is so important to allow yourself to feel the struggle. Allow yourself to understand that wherever you are, is where you’re supposed to be. Seeing doubt as a positive can be an extremely helpful mindset. Doubt allows us to keep searching for a way to grow, a way to be better. We have to keep going no matter what! We know this because we not only have to look at where we are, but how far we’ve come. Pushing forward even if there is only little movement. We validate this by reminding ourselves that any type of movement – is progress! We keep ourselves motivated to keep going by finding good in all of our experiences, even the negative ones. The negative experiences force us to dig deeper to find the meaning behind them and what we learned from them. To our audience, please know that we all experience the struggle at some point. If you keep the faith, stay focused, and remind yourself of not only your why, but the fact that you are a force to be messed with – the struggle will not only make you more resilient, but stronger!

Throughout our lives, Stephanie and I have overcome trials and tribulations which have molded us into the women we are today. Our upbringing and family dynamics have largely influenced our motivation to chase after our dreams, and to walk by faith, not by sight. This mindset has served as the catalyst we need to focus on our compassion for helping women of color in our communities. Maintaining this mindset has also reminded us that our mission is much bigger than any self-doubt that may tell us to give up. We’ve intentionally created a safe space that allows us to be our own cheerleaders, even when it may seem like our goals are unachievable. Trusting the process and celebrating all of our accomplishments (both big and small) has been the driving force needed to continue striving for greatness.
