We had the good fortune of connecting with Simone Ferguson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Simone, how does your business help the community?
My business serves a message that the world needs.

My clothing brand opens your eyes to what being “humble” is. “Humble” means having a low estimate of one’s own importance, lower (someone) in dignity. Someone of low, political, or administrative rank. All of our lives, we’ve been told to be humble not knowing the true definition of it. I want the world to be confident, proud and to love themselves out loud unapologetically. An important message to keep people going and make it through their days. My brand is for the overcomers.

Secondly, has anyone ever told you to humble yourself? It’s probably when you were feeling your best. Just got your nails done, hair done/ haircut, dressed up new shoes and here goes someone telling you to humble yourself. Why? Does the love & confidence I have for myself make you uncomfortable? If so, they’re just going to have to be uncomfortable. It took some time to get to this point of loving ourselves the way we do & we’re going to love ourselves out LOUD. My business is a reminder to everyone to be confident & proud of themselves on how far they’ve come and to shine. Don’t dim your light to satisfy others. Be your greatest YOU.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I, Simone Ferguson, is so excited for my brand’s future! Having something that belongs to me is so precious. I still be in disbelief some days because I never seen myself doing anything outside of working a 9-5. “HUMBLE FOR WHAT?” is so fulfilling. Was it easy? Absolutely not. Honestly, February 2024 changed my life. I was working a job that I hated, but didn’t have the guts to quit. Why? Because I’m an adult w/ bills. BIG BILLS lol But God put me in a position where I had to leave. He was pushing me to leave, but I wasn’t listening. Then my grandmother got sick, suffering from three heart attacks and undergoing open-heart surgery. I had to help w/ being her caregiver and ended up leaving my job.

I felt free and was finally able to focus on my clothing brand that I’ve put on hold for years. Everything happened the way it should’ve. It was NOT. EASY. being obedient to what God wanted me to do. Every time I tried applying for jobs that I’d be a shoe-in for, unsuccessful. I’m talking emails not being delivered to recruiters and all. I took these as signs from God & I listened. I needed to launch my business for myself before I did ANYTHING else for another company.

It wasn’t easy because I have my own place, car note, etc. but God continued to make a way. I met people that helped me personally and w/ my business. I kept my faith high & that’s a big part of what keeps me going. What’s for me will not miss me. I speak positive things into existence because life & death are in the power of the tongue. I speak success, happiness, long healthy life & abundance into myself, my loved ones, & my brand.

The lesson? Everything happens for our betterment. No matter how things seem. Even when things are not “going our way” or seem bad, it’s only building character & strength. I remind myself of this everyday. The world needs to know that BEING HUMBLE ENDS HERE. Be confident & proud of yourself on how far you’ve come and shine! Celebrate being an overcomer. Don’t tuck your tail in between your legs to make others comfortable.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I do not go to the city unless someone is taking me there. lol I hate going to Atlanta because of the aggressive drivers & my car got booted last time (I paid for parking, too). Anyway, I’d take my best-friend to Azure in Conyers. It’s a cool spot, grown & sexy, great music, & food. We actually went & she RAVES about it still. Being 33 years old, I don’t attend clubs unless it’s a special occasion (someone’s birthday, invite, etc.). I like more of the laid back establishments with grown & sexy vibes. I am not standing up in the club where people are stepping on my heels & fighting before the night is out, period.

As far as food, if I wanted something quick to eat, I’d take her to “Sunset Jamaican Eatings” on Covington Highway. OH MY GOD! The best Jamaican food I’ve ever had. Expensive, but worth it for sure.

For some fun, karaoke, & good drinks, I’d go to Joystick off of Edgewood. Love the old school nostalgic games they have in there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My God. How much time do you have? There’s so many people I have to thank. First & foremost, my Creator. God Himself. I wouldn’t be here, have the vision, or have met the people I have without Him. Nothing is possible without Him, period! Secondly, my mother Sonzi Taylor. She’s one of my best-friends, my biggest supporter. She has always believed in me & supported me in whatever I chose to do. When I was a waitress, she encouraged me to be the best waitress. No matter where I am in life, be the best at whatever I do. That’s what I learned from my mother.

My father, Henry Ferguson. I thank Him for my grit, my brazen personality. I love him so much. He always remind me of how strong & unstoppable I am. Very important reminders needed to keep me going. I also want to thank these people that are a strong part of my village/support system: Deseree Strafford, my best-friend, my counselor & sister of 18+ years. Phillip Bell, my “twin”, Courtney Hampton, Sharelle Baker, Chenelle & Donte Hunte, & Phylicia Johnson. I love you all & thank you for helping me!

Last, but not least, I want to thank God for therapy. One of my assignments were to list five traits that I love about myself & to write out the definition for each. “Humble” was one of those words and the realization of what it truly meant led me to creating my brand: HUMBLE FOR WHAT?
