Meet Sierra Gresham: Licensed Master Cosmetologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sierra Gresham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sierra, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
Where I’m from, well I’m from Decatur, Stone Mountain, Rex, and Ellenwood Georgia. Going up as the only child with 1 deceased parent and being raised by my grandparents my life seemed good to others. I learned the value of family, cooking, having a HOME not just somewhere to stay. At a young age I learned how to adapt to change, living with a smile on my face and never saying something is a mistake it’s a lesson learned. I can jumgle.many things but I have learned it’s ok to say NO and to take a break every now and again. Today I am a Wife, mother, mentor, businesswoman, Licensed Master Cosmetologist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hair styling is not what I wanted to be its chose me. I always wanted to help the public. Make others feel good, teach others (my mother was a teacher), so I thought I needed a corporate job. I went to Cosmetologist school right after high school and allowed fear and procrastination to scare me from getting licensed. I re enrolled in cosmetology school while working full time and part-time as a salon assistant. After working as a HR Assistant recruiter for 6 and a half years I was terminated and as I tell others that was one of the best days of my life. I had to give the president of the company a hug just foransweringmy prayers. I learned right then be careful what you ask for (I prayed that God release me on his terms), and don’t allow fearand procrastination to get in your way of what you want. That gave me the drive to finish school and get my license. At first it was hard having a 1 yr old, my husband and I just started new careers, and getting use to not working 2 jobs was an adjustment. We got through it. What sets me apart from others I don’t meet strangers and I love to train others. Along this journey I’ve learned you need a support system, however you are in school is how you will be in the outside world, and don’t allow fear and procrastination to get in your way! Soon the world will becoming to my very 0wn salon!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would pick her up from the airport and go straight to my house where she has her own room. Depending on how she feels we could stay in and cook or go out to a lounge. The next afternoon ( we stayed up talking and watching movies) we will hit a brunch spot. Later that day we will get a spa treatment. Go back to the house nap and get ready to meet up with some friends for a co-ed game night. The next day we will chill since it will be her last day. I would cook a homecook meal and send her off until next time!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my husband, children, grand mother, mother in law, God mother, aunts , friends, and associates for supporting throughout my journey and any future journeys.
