We had the good fortune of connecting with Shonda Moore, MBA, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shonda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The concept of risk taking has always intrigued me, but being a young parent really put the brakes on my daredevil spirit. I started my family pretty much straight out of high school, so for me, life has been a delicate balancing act, ensuring the tightrope I walked on was safe and secure for my kids.

Initially, becoming a nurse was less a career decision and more of a practical one-I needed a job that could weather any storm and keep food on our table. All my life decisions centered around my kids, aligning my work hours with their school schedule. The thought of someone else having to step in to raise them, even just a few hours a day, due to my work, was a risk I wasn’t willing to take.
Then came 2023. With my youngest baby done with high school, it felt like the perfect time to dust off those old dreams I’d shelved. Sassy Silhouette, my very own business, came into existence. With the support of my husband, my family, my friends, and God, I stepped out on faith and am now taking a gamble on myself.

Embarking on this journey was like free falling without a parachute, a far cry from my comfort zone. Yet, there hasn’t been a moment of regret. Sure, a flutter of anxiety still lurks in the pit of my stomach when I consider the audacious leap I’ve taken. But, you know what they say—if you want life to dazzle you, you’ve got to be willing to throw a little sparkle yourself. And that’s precisely what I intend to do. With God on my side, I WILL NOT FAIL!

I’m proud of myself; I’m a risk-taker!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Sassy Silhouette, based in Atlanta, Georgia. My business is new, but that does not take away the many lessons I’ve learned thus far. I am a registered nurse by profession. I am working on completing my Doctorate in Nurse Practitioning as well as my Family Nurse Practioner degree. I am most proud that I actually walked away from a high-paying career as a nursing supervisor to take a risk and believe in myself. Although the walk away is relatively new, It still has challenges. I walked away with a daughter entering her first year of Spelman College, with very few clients and the learning curve of a novice business owner in Atlanta. Locating resources is hard work in a city that you are still new in.

My brand is not just about making your waist smaller or your butt larger; it’s a bit of a setup to encourage overall health. A setup for a mind change regarding your health. The medical professional in me knows that you cannot sustain a “great body” on the outside without working on a great body on the inside. I’ve partnered with a few nutritionists and physical trainers to support my clients who desire that extra support. Sassy Silhouette will ultimately become a physical, mental experience for the client.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I moved to Atlanta with y family in 2019. I am still learning and loving this fantastic place! When my best friend visits the area, we love to go to The Battery. It’s a complete experience. We love the food, the music, the overall experience. No visit to Atlanta is complete without a visit to the Georgia Aquarium-it is truly one of my favorite places to go. It’s beautiful and reminds me of how powerful God is and how I can trust that he will care for me like he does the amazing creatures he’s created. Watching the beluga whales gives me peace. They live without a care in this world. I love the many concerts ATL has to offer. I am a musician and love to sing and perform more than anything in the entire world. Music sets my mood. The multiple Amphitheaters are always a go-to. I would take her to the Norcross and Alpharetta area; there are some fantastic restaurants there. Finally, we would have to go shopping at Lenox Mall. No visit to Atlanta is complete without that.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to dedicate my Shoutout to my family and friends. My husband, Dwayne Moore, supports every decision I make, my son and daughter-in-love, Kenneth and Indyasia Fowler, and my best friend, Danielle Fielder, who helped birth my brand. My family and friends (mom, daughter, neighbors) who started as my first set of clients! Finally, my business coach and adopted daughter, Noreal Layne. All the work, prayers, and overall support from each one of my family and friends has been amazing. They made me believe that I can do this!
