We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherry DeVouse Dennard and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sherry, how do you think about risk?
Living a life avoiding risk will yield zero rewards, period. There’s simply no way around it; therefore, if you’re looking for easy then you maybe settling for a mediocre or basic existence. I believe your faith is employed when you trust where God is leading you. Ironically, my career as an insurance agent is geared around managing the risk of everyday life. I can think of pivotal moments in my lifespan that contributed towards my journey as an entrepreneur. However, they all came with some uncertainty and quite frankly, a healthy dose of fear. Now, it’s not to suggest that you should blindly jump off of a building! I’m saying take “calculated” risk and put a plan in place and then put some action to it. Don’t be afraid of failure because that’s where some of the best lessons are. Once you fail, capitalize on those lessons and do different. The operative word here is….DO! Don’t get stuck because your first time at bat was a strike out. Reset, reconfigure, and plan to swing for the fence the next go round!

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m the proud Owner/CEO of Sherry DeVouse Dennard State Farm Agency located in south metro Atlanta. We service all of GA, AL, and SC. We help people insure their cars as well as their home by assisting with Homeowners Insurance, Condo Insurance, or Renters Insurance. We take the time to talk to everyone about the importance of Life Insurance to protect those we value most. As a small business owner myself, working with small business owners for their Business Insurance and planning needs is particularly rewarding. We are now offering Pet Insurance! I am an Ambassador and volunteer on the McDonough Community Chamber of Commerce Board. Georgia Notary Public Services are available by appointment. Our office is modern and progressive with a talented, professional, competent, and licensed team ready to serve.

Throughout all of 2022, we will be celebrating 100 years of State Farm! 100 years of assisting people through life’s ups and downs and being there when you need us most. We are excited to take part in such a wonderful achievement and will continue to work hard for our local community as your local State Farm Agency in McDonough. Let’s all do our part to make 2022 a great year!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area, there are so many different things we could do! If we’re staying in the local Henry County area, we would start off with brunch at Two Eggs in McDonough. From there, we could go shopping at some of the local boutiques in the area and then head over to Sheek Lounge for a facial. Next stop is Sparkle and Glam Makeup Artistry to get our faces beat lol! If we’re up to it, we could check out the Atlanta Motor Speedway if there’ an event happening. By nightfall, we could go to the new state of the art Amphitheater located in Stockbridge, GA to take in a concert. Subsequent days could be filled by venturing out to Atlanta for high end shopping, a trip to the High Museum, Lake Lanier, the Aquarium, Atlanta Civil Rights Museum, and end the week with a trip to the Mountains to wind down.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many Angels that are and were commissioned to contribute towards my successes in life. Some of these earthly Angels were on temporary assignment and others are the invisible one’s paving my way and thwarting danger throughout a given day. I’m so grateful to those who fervently prayed and pray on my behalf even when I’m oblivious to it. With Black History month upon us, it’s important that we pay homage to the sacrifices that made it possible for me to be in this position today. Too many heroes to name them all, but know that I’m acutely aware of their contributions. In present day, I’m so grateful for my family who always cheer me on in my endeavors and quest for greatness. The community who embraced this implant and gave me a platform to contribute and take part. In addition, grateful for the sisterhood created by the Southern Crescent Women in Business lead by founder Ariel Shaw. Moreover, my extended family of fellow agents and sales leaders who are ever ready to pour into me whenever I have questions. Last but not least, customers who help me evolve and stretch my knowledge base by asking great questions!
