We had the good fortune of connecting with Shemiah and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shemiah, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe risk taking is about believing in yourself and knowing what your capable of doing, or not doing but you take the risk in finding out. I believe I took a risk in pursuing what meant to me and not doing what others wanted me to do by staying in the norm to live comfortably. Life is all about patience but who are we to say it won’t work if you don’t know and never try. Taking risk allowed me to grow and explore beyond more than what I know.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ultimately, I think that every artist is different, ranging from their creative process to techniques and inspiration. I would like to make my art therapeutic and give the visual eye a sense of more than just seeing but to engage and to share some type of connection with the art I make. I’m excited to take my art to the next level with business and building new connections. With handling your business professionally, you attract more business-oriented people and take from learning the necessary fundamentals to grow. In the process you lose some and win some to overcome a lot of challenges I learned to get through and never give up. I would like to encourage people to be consistent, the second you stop believing in yourself you cut yourself short from giving yourself what you want and desire, but you have to put that work in and have faith.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am always down for a good eat and a good view. One of my favorite places to go to is visiting new parks, or wherever there is water. Being surrounded by nature with a good bite is my dynamic duo. I also love music so see any live performances, festivals, or concerts allows me to connect with the now and be present.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to thank my friend’s family and girlfriend, honestly everyone who just gives love back and shows interest to what I’ve done and seen me in my stages of trying to accomplish things and still being around for the outcome and the work that came out of being consistent and not let myself get discouraged by small things life throws at me.
