We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Working in the finance industry, companies have their process. I have worked for 3 other financial companies in the past, all GREAT companies; however, they all on the same way inside. They preach their own strategy of how to get clients, and want you to stick to it. They also preach and stand by their products, which are great but not always best. I wanted to start my own business to acquire clients how I prefer and also be able to use my own processes I have created, and now I am also able to utilize the products of over 20 financial institutions! This allows me to not pick a product based on the company I am with, but the clients needs’. Me starting my business was the best decision not just for me, but also for my clients and any future clients we obtain as it is now THEIR needs that are priority no matter what company I pick for them to use.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our financial planning firm is different for MANY reasons, lets start from the beginning. First and foremost, we have a holistic approach to our planning system, so we help people with ALL realms of finance. Second, I am a personal financial planner so clients have access to me every day all day, even with my personal cell phone number. We actually listen and care, it isn’t just about the money for us, we want to make sure everyone is taken care of thoroughly. I truly believe if we help enough people, we will be taken care of regardless. We believe this so strongly, we actually do not even charge fees to those in the healthcare field as a way of saying thank you for the heroes they are. Our business did not start off like this, this is my 8th year in the business and starting initially was difficult. We still have new hurdles that present themselves but overall we have been able to overcome them and continue growing as a firm.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Exciting places I like are the Painted pin, I would take them to that on their first night. I personally am a dancer and love having people experience my world of dance and taking them across the city to places like Eclipse De luna, Loca luna, etc. I would also in the day-time take them to piedmont park and allow them to experience the bulk of the city and also Ponce city market. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would shoutout Tom Hegna. It was him that fueled my flame for the industry and got me really passionate about helping clients. His training, videos, courses, and seminars I have been to really helped me understand the industry and how to best help others. It was not until I met Tom that my experience really took off.
