We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelby Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shelby, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I thought of starting my own business as a College student. Many of the women I had classes with would come with their hair done, nails, lashes etc & I would have a pity party for myself, in my head. I was always a girly glamour girl but I had no money as a College kid to maintain on a consistent basis. It was a sacrifice to skip out on a beauty expense, a sacrifice that ate towards my self esteem for awhile. I began to ask around, network on campus to exchange what I could offer, my brain. I made 2 friends who were passionate about their beauty skills, not so much about obtaining our degree. So I would type an essay and sneak into their lecture class to take notes for them in exchange for a free hairstyle. Unfortunately I had no tangible beauty skill but I was great with time management, scheduling, money management, & problem solving. What I learned is that there are multiple aspects of a business. That’s when my thought turned into a dream! I wanted to own a beauty salon of my own. I wanted passive income that didn’t require too much physical labor, time. I want to inspire beauty professionals to turn their passion to profit. I want to be within the beauty industry, wherever I best fit in. Which for me is, an Owner.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am The Owner, CEO of SG Beauty Spa located in Marietta, GA. I have luxury beauty suites & booths available to rent. We have amazing technicians providing top quality services.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For brunch in Atlanta, I’d go to “Toast on Lenox” or “LYFE ATL” then for lunch we would eat at Kabob Land for a day time chill, outdoorsy vibe, then dinner we would enjoy Roc South Cuisine!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Celina, the owner of Wax Me Pretty. My esthetician & friend, who has been licensed & working in a suite for yearsy but most recently expanded into owning a building of suites herself. She is located in Sandy Springs area.
