We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawntinique Shepherd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawntinique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business on the spur of the moment. I do not recommend this way, but that is just how it happened. I am in love with numbers, and at the time, I was in school getting my degrees in business development and accounting. So when I started my business, I wanted to stand out; I started my own virtual tax office in late 2018. My goal was to bring convenience to those who did not want to sit in a tax office all day. My other purpose was to educate my clients on why we file a tax return and to keep them IRS compliant the legal way. Many people in my industry do taxes, but many are not educated on the tax laws to find the possible credits and deductions you may be eligible for.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business, CFO & Associates, is an accounting firm. We provide CFO services, tax preparation, bookkeeping, tax planning, business formation, and many other financial services. What sets us apart from others in our field is my willingness to educate and our drive to bring financial literacy awareness to business owners. I am most proud of overcoming any complicated challenges during my entrepreneurship journey. I am also excited about what is coming soon for CFO & Associates.

I got where I am today because of my ambition to be a better person for myself and my children. It was not easy at all, there have been plenty of times I just wanted to quit, but I couldn’t. I overcame these challenges by praying and keeping faith that God had better for me, and he did.

Some of the lessons that I have learned are that I can’t take everyone to the top with me. Everyone will not be happy for me, no matter who they are in my life. Do not give up; get your mind together before trying to start and run a business.

I want the world to know that being an entrepreneur is not easy. My job is to maintain the financial backend of your business so that you can focus on your purpose of being an entrepreneur. No one should be doing this alone, which is what financial best friends are for.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I am new to Atlanta, I do not know many places, but we can explore together. I am all for adventures. We can check out sites like the aquarium, the Coca-cola museum, and Stone Mountain. We can explore downtown, go to cascades, try different restaurants and check out any business events that may be going on in the city.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Crysta Tyus mentored me through my CFO services; she’s fantastic. She caught my eye with her Ad on Facebook, and it told her story, and we could relate a lot.
