We had the good fortune of connecting with Shawna Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shawna, what are you inspired by?
The Mountains and woodlands, with all of their sacred treasures of plants ,animals and People, who respect and lovingly teach of their knowledge of our Connection with every living thing ,thru Spirit-our Creator. I have been creating Art since I learned how Majickal a crayon and pencils were.
Being raised in North Georgia woodlands, and being told we were Cherokee, I knew I’d go to them old Appalachian Mountains to Learn.
I lived in Western North Carolina and Tennessee for 31 years, just came back to Georgia 3 years ago to be with family, and learn more .
I say them ol Mountains have taught me so much about life, living and why I create and teach all that I’ve learned with my Art.
Cherokee taught me to share stories and handed down traditions so they will live on.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a self-taught Artist who has always drew what I could see. I’ve always learned from the animals and woods growing up on the river bank, and fascinated and a longing love for Native Americans and the mountains.
My biggest accomplishment there,I worked in Cherokee N.C with a Cherokee couple painting river rocks and learning to tell Cherokee stories with our paintings, and now, years later I’m painting mushrooms, feathers, gourds, animal bones and skulls,as well as wood pieces, and still sharing those stories and learning more from more people along this journey.
I also am now on a path of becoming a woodcarver as well as mask carver.
Whatever I see in wood or stone, I’m humbly thankful for this Gift.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anywhere in the Mountains of Western North Carolina and Tennessee! Take a week long camping trip on horseback!
I promise you’ll understand when I say “we’re all Connected Through Spirit ” . You’ll come outta there with a humble loving heart !

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Creator. Family and Friends.
People along the way who followed Spirit and guided me through this journey.
The Mountains of Western North Carolina and Tennessee, with all their plants, animals, and people, and sacred teachings.
