We had the good fortune of connecting with Sha’ton La’tique and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sha’ton, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I think I’ve done in terms of the impact on my children is show them that I’m human. Not perfect. Being vulnerable in their presence and then persevering through trials and triumphs. We tend to believe that there is no perseverance through success. That we can just ride a wave of success fancily free. Success takes perseverance because, of course, we would all like to maintain whatever measure of success we manage and sometimes, the maintenance of any level of success can be more challenging than the acceptance of failure. I push in their presence in order that they gain an understanding of what is required to accomplish whatever is their heart’s desire. I do not give up.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an entertainer. I have a passion for creating lives and telling stories. Stories that are nourishing to the spirit and beneficial to the mind. I’ve had a pretty interesting life and have survived a diversity of life challenges. Life events which have abundantly loaded my emotional “wheelhouse” and grants me the ability to easily relate to most any human experience. I believe that is what makes me a talented actor along with my ability to empathize and slip into shoes that are not necessarily my own but very similar to a pair I’ve worn on my personal journey. I’ve arrived to where I am today professionally by faith. Faith in myself and faith in the God that lives within me to ‘be’ as a talented creative force. Training. Lots of training and the understanding human nature as well as the business of acting. It has not always been easy but the work has been a true labor of love. One challenge has been, of course, the global pandemic that has affected everyone. Fortunately, in Hollywood, that challenge has been met by a plethora tribes of artists and industry professionals who had the cognizance of mind to move everything online. From classes to workshops to speaker series and even entire productions! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! There are personal challenges I’m currently navigating also. I’d like the world to know that I’m a shining example of the saying “If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it” and that it is NEVER too late to change trajectory and begin again.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well, there is so much to do and to see in Atlanta. I’ve been here for three years and have yet to really scratch the surface of what the city has to offer as far as entertainment and night-life are concerned. I would first take my friend one of my favorite eclectic shopping places. That being the shops at “Little Five Points”.
We’d definitely hit up “Get It Girl” a women’s clothing boutique to procure a few unique styles to boast about town.
While we’re there, we can pick up a few spiritual grounding items from “Moods Music” then grab a bite to eat at the “Little 5 Corner Tavern” or “Niramish”.
I’d definitely take her to many of my favorite dining spots like “Tassili’s Raw Reality” for a GIGANTIC raw vegan wrap and savory cajun popcorn – if she can withstand the HEAT of it! lol! “The Soul Vegetarian No2” for their wonderfully good ‘Kalebone’ sandwich. I’d take her over to “Stone Mountain Park” for a nice nature hike, a tram ride and of course, to visit the park’s ‘Historic Square’ which for me was a life affirming and emotional experience.
I’m not a real nightlife’er so-to-speak however, the few time’s I’ve gone out on the town I really enjoyed my time at Cam Newton’s “Fellaship ATL” cigar bar where premium dining on Southern Cuisine, live music meet a chic, artistic vibe. (This is where those pieces from “Get It Girl” will come in handy!) “The Painted Pin” for a unique and fun adult gaming and entertainment experience. The “SkyView Atlanta” Ferris wheel at Centennial Park – which is a sight of lights after sundown and, of course, the “Georgia Aquarium”, an Atlanta Staple.
I’d also like to explore some adventures that I’ve yet to embark upon but have been planning to such as indoor skydiving at “iFLY” in Marietta. Socializing at the “Sidebar ATL” in the heart of downtown Atlanta for a high velocity club vibe. “The World of Coca-Cola Museum” & the “MLK Jr National Historic Site”. A concert at “Piedmont Park” and the breathtaking “Botanical Gardens”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like shout The Most High, Yahweh. Creator of the Universe. Whom without, I would have not the people around me who love and encourage me. The opportunities afforded to me. The passion to chase my dreams. The talents to bring those dreams to fruition. The humility to maintain them and the love in my heart to share their fruits with others. Thank you.
