We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharon Motley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharon, how do you think about risk?
Honestly, when it comes to risk taking, I really don’t think about it. I just take them and see what happens. I have taken risk in applying to roles or positions in Recruiting, after I have successfully received an offer, this is one of those at-risk moments. I would counteroffer for another salary range instead of the one offered to me to see if it gets approved. They could come back and say, we changed our mind, we no longer want to consider you for this role, or they can come t0 a resolution and you both agree on a ballpark figure. Being a recruiter, I know that this process is doable, and what to expect when these types of situations arise, Luckily, it has always worked out in my favor.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Recruiter, and a people person. I never had a issue with getting along with others. I am proud of my sucess and career goals, when I first started in recruiting, I was making maybe $14.00 per hour, but I earned my spot and a place in the industry, What sets me apart from others is that this job I love doing. I never would forget what my old boss told me, she said Sharon you deserve a place in this industry. Even though I thought after leaving there; I wouldn’t ever want to go back to it, Somehow, I ended right back there, So I said from here on out; I am here to stay. I promise you it was not easy. I was actually turned down from some companies I’ve applied too, but I didn’t let that discouraged me. I kept applying until someone finally said yes. I tell you my work spoke for itself. I was a very good employee and detailed worker. The lessons I have learned along the way is never get up on something that’s important you and that your passionate about. It just could be a no not right now. Doesn’t mean it want happen later on in life. I want the world to know that I had my challenges and struggles as well, nut I am a very determined individual, As I got older, I started manifesting how I want my life to be. You don’t ever want to be jealous of anyone’s success or what God has blessed them with. I do know if he blessed your neighbor, that means he is in the neighborhood and yours blessings are closer than you think.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, in my city I would take them too, I would start off by going out to eat at a Japanese restaurant because I love to eat Habitachi they sell alcohol so we would probably have a few drinks. We would visit the casino and try our luck a little bit. I don’t club so it’s not much to do in my hometown unless it’s sports season. Then we can visit an Alabama and Auburn football game, I like to try different food so much of my time would be spent eating out. I am a spiritual person who believes in the most high God so church is a must that we end up in the house of the Lord. Besides work, I really don’t do much but spend time with my grandkids, daughter and family. That’s it.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
No, I owe all my success to myself. I’ve worked hard to get where I am today. I am at a Senior level role and making almost 6 figures. I did this on my own. Not with the help of others. I don’t even have a college degree, but what I have learned is that you have to get in and learn as much as possible, ask questions if you don’t know the answer, always volunteer to want to learn more and take on different task, You’re not doing it to get brownie points from your employer, you’re doing it to progress in your career goals if that’s what you plan to do. Never let negativity and anyone’s assumption of you get you discouraged, never let no one tell you it can’t be done. I am a prime example and a living witness it can be.
