We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharmaine Tate-Ross and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharmaine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Moxie by Maine was created for people who admire movement and want to grow and express themselves freely through daily healthy practices. I thought of the aspiring dancer who wants to refine their skills in a healthy environment, the person that wants to try something new and/or add a skill to their resume. Moxie is about FREEDOM through MOVEMENT in every aspect, it’s a point where art meets life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Moxie by Maine is the only wellness centered dance program in the Southeast. I am excited about the impact Moxie will make on the community during these trying times as well as the opportunities we are creating for other performers and creators. It is not easy to own a dance business at any point, but during a pandemic it is a little more complex for me as a movement artist. Technology wasn’t ready for the shut down nor were we as a country and that played a major part in keeping all balls rolling in the right direction. Grace has made me resilient. We can’t be too hard on ourselves right now and there is a true peace that follows that knowing. Moxie’s mission is to empower, inspire and transform the body, mind and soul.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is full of spots that will heighten the senses from, breathtaking views to culture filled museums, neighborhoods and restaurants there is plenty to do. I would definitely recommend checking out Cascade Nature Preserve & Kennesaw Mountain they are some great nature escapes, but if you like a more formal presentation the Atlanta Botanical Gardens and Georgia Aquarium are beautiful. For the best fuel, I take people to a few KEY spots that I solicit at least once a week, lol this is just me being honest. Tassili’s Raw Reality for kale wraps & THAT Burger spot for an Impossible ATL cheesesteak you can really never go wrong with either of those. Also if Notch8 Gallery is having a live exhibit it’d be fun to check it, to see the ATL culture in full effect. Then catch a drink at the sugar factory or The Trap Museum to top it all off. Either way you’ll be in a unique environment that is sure not to disappoint.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband’s creativity widens my lens. My mother’s love keeps me inspired. My father’s compliments keep me confident and my clients fill me with love and pride with every class, comment and share.
