We had the good fortune of connecting with Shari Fairclough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shari, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
“If you don’t give up on something you truly believe in, you will find a way.” – Roy T. Bennett

I’ve gone through many failures in my life trying to succeed. When I was at my worst, my family and friends gave me courage and support. They knew I was talented enough to make it. I just kept trying; I found my way through inspiration.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is very contemporary, but I have some complex pieces. I find it fascinating that art reflects the history of our surroundings. Whether I design on my laptop, paint, or sketch on the paper creating art pieces is like a journey. I get so lost in my creative process. By the time I finish my art piece, it comes out with a better result from the first idea I had in my vision. Time is a crucial thing! It’s SO important in the creative process. If you don’t make time for your vision it’s not going to come out as great as you wanted it. From a young age, I was told that I work hard to reach my goals. It wasn’t until I started working hard to reach my goals. Just reflecting on everything, I am very proud of all my accomplishments. I worked on Film productions as an Art Production Assistant for Netflix, and HBO Max. I decided to focus and start on my online graphic design business. Since I’m not just choosing one career. I decided to be the Jack of All Trades.

The process was not easy. I had to sacrifice so much time and energy to get where I am. I failed so many times to get to this point. But I learned so much along the way. I worked in so many different types of fields (Education, Customer Service, Marketing, and Film Production) and, even flunking out of portfolio school helped me gain skills to become this entrepreneurial version of myself. Just be open to criticism, it makes artists get better at creating a better concept or vision. It’s not what you say it’s how you say it. It opened my eyes that things have to be presented and featured a certain way. This journey helped me create Sunni Aesthetics. I want my clients to feel vibrant, luminous and, comfortable when they work with me. I always let the creativity out. If we weren’t creative we would all be the same.

I can say that this is a great start! I still have so much more I need to accomplish to reach my end goal. In the future, I picture myself registering Sunni Aesthetics as an LLC and working in film productions as a Graphic Designer.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my friends! It really depends on the day and occasion.

If its a beautiful day we plan on doing something chill like a hike, we would go to Arabia Mountain. Its very adventurous park, the trails and hidden forests there are amazing! Maybe take some landscape pictures, paint the beautiful views or go kayaking.

Now If were in the city, we would start at the High Museum and see which new exhibits are going to be featured there. We like learning about period pieces of art. We’re very nerdy! To get a quick drink we would hang out at the grassy rooftop bar at Clairmont Lounge. Downstairs may be a different vibe but the rooftop has mesmerizing views. You’re able to see the beautiful skylines around the city. The best place to be around sunset. Everyone has to check out the beltline at least once, It’s so HUGE!! The murals and art there are so unique especially around the Krog Street Tunnel.

My friends and I have a serious obsession with sushi! If were ever in midtown area, we usually go to our favorite spot RA Sushi around Happy Hour. Their drinks are authentic and the sushi is so delicious!

Sometimes, If were feeling a bit retro, we would go shopping at psycho sisters by little fives and dress like were hippies or rollerskating queens . We would stop by Wonderkid and get a shake. I would check to see if they’re any festivals in town, concerts at variety playhouse, or aisle 5. But ending the night at Friends Off Ponce or MJQ is usually typical for us. We love to dance, have fun, and be the life of the party.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I learned from so many people to get to this point in my life. I honestly wouldn’t be in this position without my boyfriend, Ben. When I flunked out of portfolio school he saw the potential in me. I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be a graphic designer. From the moment we met Ben knew art was my passion. Through his support, he inspired me to design again. Slowly but surely, I started going back to it. In quarantine, I had all this free time. I started sketching and painting flowers from our afternoon walk in the neighborhood. I just took the time to re-learn and think about everything. It’s not just graphic design but relationships with friends, making goals, balancing life, manifesting positive energy having good vibes.
