We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharee Owens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sharee, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has always been something very well known to me. I’ve always been the “want more” type. Yes, taking risks are terrifying, trust me I know. Especially with anxiety, it’s not always easy taking risks but nothing worth having comes easy. Risks have put me in situations I started out terrified and ended up proud and even more confident. It helps you grow as a person, and as a company. I’ve been able to network with so many wonderful people by taking risks. One risk actually landed me my very first wedding being booked. Aim high, and keep trying no matter what. You can only go up from here.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is my passion; I’m always pushing the envelope, crossing boundaries, always trying to “take it to the next level”.
With a ton of free sessions, begging, bribing you name it lol is how I got to where I am today. I needed to build a portfolio to showcase and needed subjects. I initially started out with nature, flowers, bugs, butterflies, which was awesome but I needed people to practice on. I often times felt like paparazzi at the park, waiting for the right moment to snap a photo of an unsuspecting park goer. I then built up enough courage to start asking people if it was OK to take their photos.
As my confidence grew, I began charging and now I’m hosting styled shoots.
I literally started from nothing and was scared to death, but I loved it so much and was good at it so I knew I had to push myself alot more than I was doing. Once I started buckling down and getting serious, things fell into place, and I couldn’t be happier.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of the best places to check out would be the Georgia Aquarium, Zoo Atlanta, Coca-Cola Factory, and Stone Mountain park to name a few. You can ride the gondola down the mountain for an amazing view of Atlanta. The Coca-Cola factory is near Skyview, which is a hug ferris wheel also giving you amazing views of the city.
Some of the best restaurants are La Cuernavaca in Lawrenceville. They have THE best tacos ever. You can literally taste how fresh the cilantro is. Another favorite is Bonefish Grill, the Rockefeller Alaskan Butterfish melts in your mouth. Definitely wouldn’t want to forget wet Willie’s I’m Atlanta for the best alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) frozen treats. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, all of the glory and thanks must go to God himself. I would be nothing without him. Thank you. Secondly, my boyfriend Alex has been a tremendous support system fr.the beginning. He is so encouraging, so uplifting, so supportive all of the time. I truly don’t know what I would do or where I would be without him. I love you honey. Thank you so much for always pushing me and believing in me even when I don’t believe in myself.
