We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharane Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharane, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My daughter wanted to be an entrepreneur and to learn how to become a BOSS. My mother has always made lemonade for family events and my daughter loved it! Because of this, we decided that she would start making her own lemonade. She has always asked about starting her own business and trying to take making lemonade to the next level. One day, a friend of mine, had an event and asked us to sell lemonade and needless to say, it sold out. Next, we started to sell Kay-O-Pops, or her version of popsicles. My daughter continued to come up with ideas and our customers loved it. The next thing, my daughter wanted was to have her own store, so we did. From the hand-paint on the walls, to the hand-built lemonade and ice cream stand, it was everything my daughter wanted. We also started to sell hand-spun old fashioned ice cream and figure we would title the business, Sweet Kay-O-Nade And More. From lemonade, to ice cream and milkshakes, we are the perfect business for any treat.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Outside of being the mastermind that I am, I also save lives as an EMS worker. I advocate for gun violence and help to proactively promote safety in our black communities. I am set apart from the rest because outside of my business, I genuinely take care of my community and the people around me. I have always wanted to help people and that is exactly what I do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being the person that I am, I have learned that it is not where you go but who you are with. With that being said, we like to chill at home, have a couple of drinks and a little girl time. Most of the time we enjoy having girl parties and just relaxing with each other. At this age, I am focused on working towards expanding my business and excelling in my career .

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout the Moss Clan (family) and all of the love and support they have given us. In particular Pamela Moss, my mother and Ma Phyllis , the GOATS!! They always step in to make sure everything is organized and in order. I would also like to shoutout my dad (Papa) for motivating us and always being our investor when we really need him. I would also like to shoutout myself and my small business, Happy Bags and More by Sharane, LLC. Check me out on facebook! I am THEE MIXOLOGIST. Any idea you have, i can make it happen. I manage both businesses and it is a blessing to be able to do so.
