We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantae Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantae, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was unexpected but driven by my passion for design. Initially, I never considered the idea of starting a business. As I continued to immerse myself in design and share my creations with others, I noticed a growing interest from people who admired my work. They started asking for advice, seeking guidance, and even inquiring about my design services. The increasing demand and positive feedback made me realize the potential to turn my passion into a thriving venture. Witnessing my designs’ impact on others and the value they saw in my skills, I felt inspired to take the leap and establish my own business, offering my creativity and expertise to those needing design solutions. It was a journey born out of genuine passion and the encouragement of others, which ultimately led me to embark on this fulfilling entrepreneurial path.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My journey to where I am today professionally has been a result of continuously developing my craft and learning to value my work. It wasn’t easy, as there were moments where I could effortlessly create something, while other times presented significant challenges that required me to learn and grow. Throughout this process, I’ve discovered my unique design style and aesthetic, which resonates with my target audience.

My most important lesson is that being a great designer is not solely about creative skills. Focusing on client experience and establishing a streamlined design process is crucial. Offering an exceptional experience to clients becomes the key to charging what I’m truly worth and taking my business to the next level. People appreciate consistency and professionalism, and when you deliver that, it elevates your brand’s reputation.

Lastly, I’ve realized that as a designer, I must prioritize myself as my first client. Taking care of my well-being, personal growth, and staying inspired allows me to create my best work and maintain a sustainable approach to my business.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I’m not just a designer, but also someone who values the client’s journey and believes in delivering more than just a service. My passion lies in creating exceptional brand experiences that leave a lasting impact. I’m dedicated to helping businesses grow and thrive through powerful design solutions, and I take immense pride in being a partner on their journey to success.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

– Stroll through a nearby park or botanical garden to enjoy nature.

Day 2:

– Late afternoon at the office bar, a trendy spot to work, socialize, and unwind with a good atmosphere.

Day 3:
– Explore the city’s hidden gems and street art, taking a leisurely walk through vibrant neighborhoods.
– Lunch at a quaint, family-owned restaurant serving delicious local cuisine.

Day 4:
– A day trip to the countryside or a nearby scenic location for a nature retreat.
– Picnic amidst the beautiful landscapes, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Day 5:
– Morning visit to a farmer’s market to experience the local flavors and pick up fresh produce.
– Cooking together and trying out new recipes at home for a laid-back, homely day.

Day 6:
– Head to the Ponce City Rooftop for a fun day out with great views, good food, and relaxation.
– Enjoy the sunset and evening cocktails while chatting and reminiscing.

Day 7:
– A spa day or wellness retreat to unwind and recharge before parting ways.

Throughout the week, I’d make time for heartfelt conversations, movie nights, and simply enjoying each other’s company. These simple yet meaningful experiences would create lasting memories with my best friend.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! I want to dedicate a special shoutout to System Sytas and my coach, Taylor Dru, also known as The Systems Guru, for their invaluable support and guidance. Before connecting with Taylor and System Sytas, I struggled with undercharging for my services and lacked clarity about my value as a designer. I felt a bit lost in the growing design community. However, with Taylor’s ongoing support and mentorship, I’ve gained the confidence to charge what I’m truly worth and confidently communicate my offers. Their expertise and encouragement have been instrumental in transforming my approach to business and allowing me to thrive as a designer. I am incredibly grateful to Taylor and System Sytas for their impact on my journey, and I credit them with helping me reach new heights in my entrepreneurial pursuit.
