We had the good fortune of connecting with Shane King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

What should our readers know about your business?
25 years is a long time. For anything. In our industry (marketing-centric) we’ve had to literally re-invent ourselves multiple times to remain relevant. Honestly, I can say that we had to do that at least 4-5 times. After all of this time, I’m probably more amazed at how it’s all trended back towards the origins of three squared. We started out as a very small team that was really good at video production services and encoding. From there three squared really took off and expanded to offer more robust digital agency services. This took us into heavy consultation, strategy, web & app development initiatives for the better part of 15+ years, working with many fortune 500 organizations. Those experiences all helped shape us into what we are in our current state, which is a strategic video/content agency, with the diverse pedigree of a well-seasoned digital agency. It’s one thing to be able to consistently produce award winning content, and then entirely another thing to help clients understand how they can use that content to drive real business results. Today, three squared does exactly that, and it’s really what sets us apart from most of our competition. We are still creatives, writers, producers, editors, animators & developers, but we are also very focused on AI, the data & analytics side of things, and helping clients create content roadmaps that empower all of their marketing and training efforts. We always knew the online world would ultimately begin to move more & more towards highly engaging content with less & less text-based information. That’s where we are today, and that’s not going to change.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow. Ok, now I’m going to start dating myself. Forever we went to all of the cool places in town, had a lot of great food and more than a lot of fun. I’ve definitely dialed that back a good bit these days, but we do still keep up with everything the best that we can. Most weekends (personally) are still built around having great food, experiences, and getting in more exercise outdoors. three squared is near downtown, but I live north of the city, so most of my time these days is spent around Lake Lanier and a lot in the North Georgia Mountains. So, back to the original question, if I had a best friend in town for a week we would definitely get in some golf (Achasta near Dahlonega is a beautiful course), dinner might include a great steak at Meadow or Tam’s which are both up near me in Cumming, GA. Also several great breweries (FoCo Brew Co is one) and all of the wineries in North Georgia are also a lot of fun. They are all very different in their own right and each worth a visit. Guaranteed we would hit the lake for some boating and fishing and then to top it all off, probably a trip up to the cabin. My parents own this amazing place in North Georgia (up near Amicalola Falls) and it’s the perfect way to just chill out, cook some great meals, maybe read a book and enjoy an incredible view for several days. Far away from the day-to-day grind of the business, but still so close to Atlanta. I’m definitely fortunate to live in a place where you can have a business near a major city, but within 30- minutes or so you can feel like you’re on vacation each & every weekend. I can’t imagine living anywhere more exciting to build a business and a life than Atlanta.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My younger brother, Eric, for sure. While a lot of businesses really struggle with family involvement, it always felt “right” for the two of us to work together to build three squared. Even though we are brothers, we bring completely different levels of expertise to the business. Eric is more analytical than I am, and while he does play a key functional role on the production side of the business, he also deals with the financial aspects of the business. That’s something I knew I never wanted to tackle day-to-day… but Eric embraced it and it has been critical for us. I’m more on the creative side, run & gun, let’s just go do this… and Eric is the one who will always ask if it is good for the business, or what the implications of a decision might be. It’s necessary to have all of these things in place and working well to make up the core of the business, and the built-in trust that he & I have with one another is unmatched.
