We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaimesha Madison and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaimesha, what do you attribute your success to?
Fear. The things I fear most are what drive me to keep going. I have a fear of failure so I keep going. I have a fear of not being taken seriously, so I put myself out there. It’s hard enough being a black women, but to be plus size on top of that makes it harder to get out there in the world and find where I fit in, within the industry. Fear is not to be avoided but to be embraced.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been working since the age of 16. I’ve had 10 jobs in total. Each job has taught me two main thing. That’s is customer service and branding. I take pride in knowing I’m branding myself in a positive way. No matter who doesn’t believe in me or who degrades my work, I keep it professional.
I’ve worked with photographers who have just dismissed me and not taken my photo shoots seriously. All because of my size and my style. I don’t go on a rant, I just keep it cute.
I want to one day know that my pictures will give someone else hope and they can say,” If she can do it, so can I”. I don’t care if they mean it positively or just to be ugly. If I’m out here grinding, so can you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually just had a friend over this weekend There’s this brunch spot in Macon called J Christopher. That definitely would be the first spot. If not their than Oliver’s downtown. Once we get done eating, we would definitely have to go to smileys flea market on 247 near Warner Robins. I love walking around and finding good deals. Plus all that walking builds up an appetite. The food there is great and the people you meet are even more amazing. Once done we heading back home to binge on Anime and Pizza from fattys.
The en t few days would be dealing with small spots like the Daquiri bar downtown and hitting up my favorite stores. I love thrift shopping and going to Marshall’s.
Before my friend leave, I would definitely take them to The Pond in earner Robins. It’s a nice restaurant that is literally near a pond. You can sit outside and eat. That way you can see the water. I love the scallops and lamb chops there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person who helped me find my love for the camera is DSTO Moore. He believed in me and helped me with my first ever photoshoot.

With me starting my self care beauty products, I have to give credits to CJ. What started off with the support of just helping me with hair growth oil has now flourished to me having Yoni products and adult toys.
