We had the good fortune of connecting with SHACAI. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SHACAI., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
If you already know what’s beneath you, why not explore what’s above you? The worst thing that can happen when taking a risk is failing. Before I released my first song, I had problems with being perceived, not understanding if art is what I love to do and I want to make it my business, I’m going to have an audience. Risks don’t necessarily mean being reckless; to me, it means being relentless, disciplined, and calculated.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am proud to be a multi-dimensional artist from Detroit, Michigan who has excelled in visual and performing arts. My mission is to spread love and cultivate change through creating and displaying my art, all while being versatile and honest with myself and others. Specifically, my lane is vocal performance, acting, theatrical production, music composition, and production, and arts education. My passion is to allow my creativity to flow and to pour into all walks of life. As a creator, I feel it’s important to me to have a strong sense of individuality. It’s not just about knowing that you have many talents; it’s knowing yourself as a human being that can help connect with others. For me, I know my creativity is my anointing. It fuels me and the way I navigate. It’s important to remember the fact that there’s no ceiling comes to success. It’s almost like — My creativity is endless. It’s like an ever-flowing river of opportunity. I’ve faced many challenges but I believe life is a never-ending journey of healing. You can count on me to always advocate for better mental health practices and balancing your mind body, and soul. I often express how I feel or reflect experiences through my creativity and let that embody the art.
Lately, I’m most excited about my upcoming single release that’s slated to drop in the fall. It’s coming REAL soon! I’ve been devoting a lot of time bringing the song and story to life. Overall, I’m enjoying the process.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m fairly new to the Atlanta area but in the event of free time and guests, (probably a Saturday) we’d start our day strolling through Piedmont Park, taking in the sights and landscape. From there, we’d visit Nouveau Bar & Grill to devour some of their eclectic brunch menu items and wash it all down with a classic mimosa. Afterwards, we could hit Atlantic Station for some much needed retail therapy or enjoy the fun and attractions on the historic rooftop of Ponce City Market have to offer. We’d end our night dancing, of course. I’d recommend JoJo’s Beloved, my favorite speakeasy. The vibes are exclusive and the scenery “boasts cathedral-height ceilings, an all-vinyl soundtrack, and a brooding, romantic vibe.”
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Above all, my family inspires me to be the best I can be. I have to shoutout to my two biggest supporters. My sister & manager, Shawnique Pittman, who has continued to encourage me and been my backbone. As well as my late brother Lance, my faithful ride or die. Both of them have been a pivotal part in my journey. I know Shawnique will always be a phone call away & Lance will forever be apart of me in whatever I do.
