We had the good fortune of connecting with Seven Chan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seven, how do you think about risk?
Risk has always been a familiar frenemy in my life. As a business owner my whole life with this being my 21st year in business risk is just a part of everyday life. Most people may romanticize it as a business owner but its what everyone does on a daily basis just on their own scale.
When it comes to starting our first restaurants here in Atlanta we tell ourselves we are not kings we are conquerers. Everyday we get up and we compete against not just our competitors but against ourselves to be the best at what we do.
Without risk we would have never even gotten started and we are so proud to be at over 20 restaurants now since weve started in 2016. The path hasn’t been easy, fingers crossed it will one day but in the meantime we do whatever it takes to survive, thrive and have problems only of growth and never of inaction, risk is just what comes with it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We started with our flagship brand in 2016 with Poke Burri and became the most award winning restaurant ita history with over 80 consecutive wins, awards and designations. Weve gone on to launch Poke Burri across ATL and the country. We folloed without next concept Lifting Noodles Ramen and formed KSP Restaurant Group our parent company that oversees all of our brands.
The journey was rough in the beginning as any new business. We thought we knew what we were doing but quickly realized there was an infinite amount of new challenges, things to learn and skills to acquire to really be successful in the industry.
What weve probably learned is that simply taking a step forward on the business everyday is all it takes to achieve almost anything. Its not just about working in your business, you have to work on your business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to our restaurants of course, to the aquarium, to the garden room for drinks, to all the weird random bars for fun and to the Battery for some random wandering around fun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
People always say its takes a village and in our case we have been no different. For us what helped us and has continued to motivate to keep going is our customers. They helped make us what weve become today, helped us make it through the pandemic and have helped us grow into our plans for the future.
