We had the good fortune of connecting with Seretha Willingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Seretha, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I think the single most important decision I that contributed to my success was investing in myself and education. I am grateful to have taken advantage of the educational opportunities as well as on the job trainings. This has contributed tremendously to my entrepreneurial success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career spans from supply chain to logistics and transportation. I feel I was able to get to where I am by listening to others. I was able to receive constructive criticism whether I liked it or not. I didn’t have to agree with it but I had to listen to others point of views.
The most important lesson I learned was to look at the bigger picture and things from a different point of view. Sometimes seeing things differently can help you to understand how you as an individual could improve.
I want the world to know that SJW Logistics is a recognizable brand and my story is one of many that inspires others to know that they can create their own brand in the logistics and transportation industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area we would start out by visiting some of Atlanta’s great attractions. We would hang out at the Battery. They have great food and drinks. Then we would go down town and visit the Mercedes Benz’s stadium, maybe hang out in Atlantic Station or catch a play if they have one at the Fox Theater. There are so many options.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my husband and daughter. They are the most supportive on this journey. My daughter is 10 years old and anytime she is in the office she is trying to learn ways to help with the day to day operations. My husband is experiencing the work force challenges with me and he often jumps in and runs the Warehouse operations so we insure we have minimal impact to our customers.
