Meet Scot Clayton | Studio Owner – Producer – Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Scot Clayton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scot, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Music is my Religion, and I’m a VERY Religious person, so it was a NO brainer to work in Music, and ever since I was on the ‘other side of the glass’ as a Client, I wanted to have my OWN Studio. I can pick my own hours, work with whom I decide, and just basically totally satisfy my creative juices!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’d like to think some of the things that set me apart is my LOVE for Music, and NOT trying to mold or box the Artists into a place that I’d like for them to be, but rather, letting them totally express themselves, and letting their ART take them where it WANTS to go. Really LISTENING to the Artist, and getting their BEST work, that best represents THEIR Vision. Being as Organic as humanly possible, and coming up with a Final Product that actually sounds like a True Performance, and NOT simply a sterile Recording!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Each Day, we would eat a one of the many Great Breakfast spots in Huntsville, and Evening Meal at a Totally different spot. Drop by one of the many LIVE Music Venues in town, including, Shagnasty’s, CopperTop, SideTracks Music Hall, Maggie Myers, while having TASTY adult Beverages, and sampling their ‘Bar Food’ cuisine. Make a day, for the World Famous Space and Rocket Center (since this is THE Rocket City!), and travel to several of the area Parks, including Monte Sano, and Brahan Springs. Of course hanging out with several talented clients at SMC Studios would definitely be in the mix for the week! ♫

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Some of my FAV Engineers and Producers definitely inspired me, such as Michael Wagener, Eddie Kramer, Geoff Emerick, Martin Birch, Mike Exeter, Mike Fraser. My Family and Friends for helping me, and supporting me over the years. Some of the BEST clients over the years that I could possibly imagine!
