We had the good fortune of connecting with Savanna Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Savanna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2020 the remodeling industry saw a substantial influx of new projects. I was a senior designer for a design-build firm at the time and would have benefitted from having a second set of hands to assist in all the computer work that goes along with residential design. In the summer of 2021, my husband and I relocated from metro Atlanta to Charleston, SC and I was not able to stay with the company I had been working for in Atlanta. Instead of looking for a new position with a local design-build firm, I decided to create a new position for myself by starting Seabrook Design Co. I wanted to be the extra set of hands to others that I had longed for in my previous role. SDC was created to assist thriving industry professionals in a booming market. We became a to-the-trade virtual design firm that aided remodelers, contractors, builders, architects, and designers when their workload became too much to bear alone. Today, Seabrook assists over 35 companies nationwide.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Seabrook Design Co., we truly believe in the value of collaboration over competition. Our primary goal is to aid other companies so that they may be the best version of themselves. The design and remodeling industry can be very competitive since many areas of the market are highly saturated. At Seabrook, we feel that every company has a place. Our goal is that by working together, we are all able to succeed.
Starting a new business is never easy, but we have learned that when you surround yourself with support both personally, professionally, and spiritually it makes the journey so much better. There have been long days, sleepless nights, and everything in between to get to where we are today. We hope to continue to grow as a company and as individuals and we plan to do so by surrounding ourselves with people who believe in us and our mission.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I previously mentioned, I currently reside in Charleston, SC. However, as a native Georgian, there are several places I find special and memorable. I always enjoy visiting The Battery when I am in Atlanta. The atmosphere is lively and inviting which makes it a fantastic place to let loose after a long work week. Whether you are watching the Braves or just grabbing a bite, The Battery is a great place to be.
If you ever visit Charleston, I highly recommend visiting The Royal Tern for a melt-in-your-mouth Filet Mignon and follow up with my favorite downtown rooftop, The Citrus Club, For a day at the beach, Kiawah Island is where you will find me! Charleston is truly one of a kind.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank Peter Ranney of Ranney Blair Remodeling located in Roswell, GA. Peter believed in my company and our services so much that he shared Seabrook’s name with his fellow colleagues in the industry. Over 75% of our current clientele is from the network Peter so graciously put us in touch with.
I would also like to thank Kyle Hunt, the leader of Remodelers on the Rise, for continuously sharing our name and mission with his wonderful group of remodelers. Kyle has also allowed us to be on his podcast twice which has allowed for even more exposure to his network. We would not be where we are today without the support of Kyle and Remodelers on the Rise.
I would like to thank my husband, Alan, for encouraging and believing in me even when I was not so sure I believed in myself.
Lastly, I would like to thank God for leading my life in the direction he sees fit and continuously blessing myself, my family, and my business every single day.
