We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Gearhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being creative was how I learned to relax and express myself. I started Gearhart Design Co. at the start of Covid when I was stuck at home and couldn’t do much else. My projects brought joy not only to me but to others as well. I love when customers see my products and appreciate them as much as I do. I try to make things that will make people laugh and feel good because life is tough, and I want to spread a little bit of joy where I can.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make cards, stickers, and notepads. I try to make designs that are unique and are something that you won’t find in any basic store. I had a hard time getting started because I felt like my work wasn’t good enough. Everything is made by me, from the actual design to the physical product; I don’t outsource anything, so I spent a long time finding the best printers, papers, even packaging. And even then I felt like people wouldn’t think my items were good enough. It took me a while to get over the imposter syndrome, but finally I signed up for my first market, and it blew my mind the response I got. Every sale I get, whether it be a $3 sale or a $50 sale, just know I do a little happy dance every time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite area to go, which isn’t far from where I live, is the Marietta Square. It has tons of great restaurants and bars, antique shops, and my favorite, The Strand theater, which often plays old movies and has a fantastic rooftop bar open on the weekends. Down the street a bit from the Square is Hoboken Cafe, which I think everyone needs to go to and try their famous meatballs. 10/10 recommend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My whole family has always been supportive, but I want to dedicate my Shoutout to my mom, Laurie Gearhart. She shared her love of arts and crafts with me as a kid, and cheered me on every step of the way when starting up my business. Whenever I had markets coming up and I had a ton of work left to do, my mom always pushed me to make sure I finished everything. She passed in June of 2023, but when I feel like giving up, I can hear her in the back of my head politely yelling at me to keep going, and I try every day to make her proud.
