We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Douthat and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business by working as a personal assistant for Guy Gilchrist, who was Jim Henson’s cartoonist. I went to a couple of comic conventions with him, and knew that I had a lot more potential than what I was doing for him. I knew that I always wanted to work with celebrities, but I didn’t know in the exact capacity. I love interacting with people, and being part of the action, I started Debut Entertainment, LLC in January 2020, and it’s been an exciting ride ever since!
What should our readers know about your business?
Debut Entertainment, LLC is a personal appearance agency that represents celebrities for comic conventions and other personal appearances. What sets me apart from other agencies, is that I actually care about my clients, and add my own personal touch to everything. I have great friendships with a majority of my clients, and that helps to market them to the promoters. I got where I am today due to my passion, persistence and dedication to my clients. It wasn’t easy, especially due to the pandemic, but I’m definitely not a quitter! I’m driven and goal-oriented, and a tough girl at the core. I overcome my challenges just by the pure fact to keep swimming. I am very approachable, and if there is an issue or a challenge, I take it head-on. We talk it through, find a solution, and move forward. The lessons that I’ve learned along the way are patience, persistence, and honesty. I’m honest to a fault, and that’s important to me, because I want my clients to continue to be loyal to me, and to keep working together. I want the world to know that not anyone can do this. It takes a special type of person who’s committed, passionate, and is flexible. I’ve heard a lot of “no’s,” and “no thank-you’s,” but it’s getting to the point where “yes” is heard more frequently. I want them to know that this a woman-owned business, and that I plan on taking over the world! I would like to be the catalyst for someone else’s passion; whether it be in this industry or any other creative outlet.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to Guy Gilchrist, who gave me the push I needed, along with Jessica Hill, who was the catalyst, and she also took me to my first comic convention. And, lastly, my clients and friends who have supported me.
