We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarabi Cotton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarabi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The initial thought about starting my travel agency was to completely use the many perks available to me to my advantage. Very shortly after startup however, I soon discovered my love for sharing experiences that family can make together with others. I enjoy helping bring loved ones together through travel and make the memories that will last a lifetime. When I started my agency, it was at a time when I was still mourning those that have passed on and my vision became clear on how I can use my business to help others.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Herenity Vacations is my full service travel agency that specializes in all things family travel. We have a specialty in Disney travels and cruises, but we are able to accommodate all types of vacations. I pride myself on creating experiences that allow my clients to live like a local, immersing themselves in culture, and finding unique experiences catered to the travel desires of the travel party. At first, it was challenging to find clients that were serious about utilizing a travel agent for their future trips, however, as time progressed and I became more consistent with sharing my services, my client based expanded. I had to remember my mission and get our of my own way by getting out of my comfort zone to reach the goals that I wanted and it paid off. I am in my second year of business and I have realized that it’s okay to have made mistakes in the beginning, just as long as the lesson was learned and growth was made after the problem has been corrected. One main lesson I took away from having my own business is to not listen to those who can’t see the vision that was given to me. I am a firm believer that God does not give you ideas unless you were able to make those ideas into reality. Having several people that were close to me not understand my vision did have a impact on how I conducted myself in my early stages of business, however, I overcame those doubts and continued on the path that was set for me by surrounding myself with those who did believe in what I can do. One thing about me, I do not give up. Especially, when it is a dream of mine that I feel very passionate about. As stated earlier, there have been several people in my life who had passed on within a 5 year timespan and my mission in life is to honor them and their memory in the only way that gave me comfort in my time of grieving them…travel.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Considering we live in Augusta, GA, i would split our trip into seeing local sights and also visiting Atlanta for a couple days as well. In Augusta, we will definitely visit the Riverwalk to visit by the water and head over the Pink Dipper for ice cream. When we go to Atlanta, I would take them to many places like Medieval Times, the Alice and wonderland Botanical Gardens, and also the Mercedes Benz Stadium. We will also do fun activities like riding Segways throughout the city with a guided tour. As a full service travel agent, I have access to plenty of tours and passes for several fun things we can do all around the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my husband who has helped believe in my dream, and my accountability partner, Roxanne, who consistently pushes me to get out of my comfort zone and soar to new heights.
