We had the good fortune of connecting with Saniyah D’nae and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Saniyah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had a passion for the cosmetic industry, but I found it hard to find products that cater to sensitive teen skin. I suffer from eczema so, I wanted to create a line of all-natural body and lip care. Ultimately create a legacy. I understand one of the ways to build generational wealth and I know being an entrepreneur can do that.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, “Saniyah D’nae Cosmetics” has made it our #1 priority to create products for young go-getters who want to be effortlessly fly. Saniyah D’nae Cosmetics was made to enhance your glow up with our vegan-based ingredients that aim to soothe rather than irritate your skin. I think what sets our company apart from others is that I AM ONE OF A KIND. Others may have similar products but, they don’t have my touch. All my ingredients are carefully picked and handmade with love.
The road to success has not been easy. This journey has had bumps at every corner and twists at every turn, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world because I’m doing what I love. My advice to any entrepreneur facing the storm is to push through because when it’s done raining there will be a rainbow and at the end of that rainbow will be a prize of gold which in this case is the success of your hard work.
Through everything, one major lesson I’ve learned is that you CANNOT do it all yourself. I know this is hard because I struggle with thinking I can do it all too but trust me. Before you find yourself over-worked, over-booked and burnt out ask for some help! Everyone needs help at some point and there is NO shame in that.
I want the world to know that this brand was created solely off of the love, passion, and research of reliving sensitive skin. Ultimately, creating an atmosphere where our customers love the skin their in because the true beauty is being comfortable and confident in your skin.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For starters, Atlanta has the best brunch spots hands down! My favorite happens to be “Toast on Lenox”, their salmon croquette is my go-to. Another popular city gem would be “Breakfast at Barney’s”. I also like to try and support other black-owned restaurants. Some of my favorite hangouts to just go and take pictures include; Gurl Mobb Museum, Selfie Museum, and The Black Hair Experience. Now on the more adventurous side, I love Main Event, Dave and Busters, or XtremeHopp.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Someone who is more than worthy of a little recognition within my story would have to be my mom. Throughout this whole process, she is one person I can say that has been down since day one. She always invests, not just her time, but her money too. Stays up countless nights packaging orders and is always there to critique and help me grow. She is truly what keeps my business and me going! I can’t fail to mention my amazing customers who help me sell out within a matter of hours.
