We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Bunting and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samantha, what do you attribute your success to?
I’ve been in business for almost 5 years and I’m excited to hit that mark as most new businesses don’t last. I’m still in the beginning stages, especially because I’m currently rebranding my business. I would contribute my current success to my ability to not quit when things get hard, self-development, and studying marketing. It’s easy to think “Oh, I have a talent, I’m going to be an entrepreneur” but in reality, it takes planning, strategy, and testing new ideas to see what your clients need from you. I learned that the hard way because I took a leap of faith into entrepreneurship without having a plan on how I was going to make enough income to cover my expenses. The confidence I had starting my business with $15,000 in savings started to quickly dwindle as I was down to my last $400 within 6 months. That experience challenged me so much that I had to figure out a plan quickly or get a job. I was able to pivot, create some buzz around my business, and start making more consistent income. So I’m always in a stage of awareness around what strategies I’m putting into place to best serve my client and what actions do I need to take to make it happen.
What should our readers know about your business?
Almost five years in as an entrepreneur, I”ve learned so much. I started off as a photographer/videographer. It didn’t matter if it was a wedding, a baby shower, family portraits, or anything else that can be captured with a camera, I was going to show up. Through that process, I really learned that I loved to work with businesses. Then I eventually realized that I attracted mainly women of color entrepreneurs, so I focused my business to cater to them and help them realize the importance of marketing and having high-quality content to promote their business. I’ve had the most success in my business when I begin to have a clear vision of my goals and who I’m speaking to with my messaging. Now that I’ve been studying marketing, I’ve been working on my positioning in my field. When my clients choose A More Creative Agency, they’ll get more than images and videos. Everything we create will be purposeful and backed by research and testing. So many of us hop into entrepreneurship without any formal training so we think hustling is the way to make it. That leads to businesses failing or not being sustainable because there’s no strategy to the hustle. I want entrepreneurs to stop freestyling their way through business then complain no one supports them. I want to help them see that with a strategy in place they can begin to understand their audience and create a sustainable business built on data not emotions.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not from Atlanta but it’s one of my goals to make it to Slutty Vegan. I’m a vegetarian so I’ll have to hook my bestie up with some good vegan/vegetarian eats. Otherwise, I’m a pretty easygoing person so I don’t have any particular places that we’d have to go to. I’m down for anything between a nature hike to brunch or dinner at a rooftop bar.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first embarked on my entrepreneurial journey, it started from a simple search on Google. I originally was looking up “How to manifest your dream job” but that led me to come across a few pivotal books like “The Secret”, “The Power of Your Subconscious Mind”, and a few other books. I had a complete mindset shift as I went from believing that I didn’t deserve another shot of being a business owner after having a failed attempt my first time around to knowing I can follow my dreams and create a sustainable business. I did stop reading and indulging in self-development regulary because I thought I had it all figured out but I quickly realized that this journey is a never-ending cycle of ups and downs, so it’s important to keep your mind sharp so you can handle the challenges. Now, I regularly listen to audiobooks, podcasts, and attend workshops/events so I can continue to learn from others.
