Meet Samaiyah Melton | Tech Recruiter| DEI enthusiast| Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Samaiyah Melton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Samaiyah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Back when I first started on this entrepreneurial journey, I found myself in a rather tricky situation. I had just been laid off, was juggling a part-time bartending gig, and tirelessly searching for a Human Resources job in the tech industry. It felt like a constant hustle, but not necessarily in the right direction.
Finally, I secured a full-time job, but it still wasn’t cutting it. That’s when I had that lightbulb moment and told myself that if I was going to work part-time, it would be on my terms and for my own venture, not someone else’s. And that’s the story of how Pick Perfect Photo Booth came to life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I come from a background in recruiting and talent acquisition. My professional life revolves around cultivating relationships and trust to effectively promote job opportunities. In an era where exceptional customer service is often lacking, I take immense pride in providing top-tier service. I make it a point to address every inquiry, no matter how minor, maintain thoroughness, offer regular updates, and involve the client in decision-making, whether it’s a major decision or a minor detail.
I don’t hesitate to jump on a call or respond to texts because, at the core of it, my purpose is to assist people. Running a business that offers an exceptional experience to capture your cherished memories perfectly aligns with who I am.
In today’s age, social media might create an illusion that starting a business is a breeze. The reality is quite different; it’s not as simple as the $100 LLC advertisements claim. The “free game” often comes with its costs. I’ve learned through a process of trial and error, whether it’s experimenting with new software, determining the most effective marketing tools, weighing the advantages of buying leads versus investing in advertisements versus relying on referrals and word of mouth, or engaging in business development strategies. I’m still in the process of discovering what works best for me.
My dad has always emphasized the importance of dreaming big, and my mom has instilled the value of having a vision. Even though I treat my business as a second job, I apply the same principles that have guided my career. I’ve created a mini vision board dedicated to my business, and I nurture dreams for its future. If there’s one key takeaway from reading this, it’s the significance of breathing life into your dreams. Manifestation is a very real force.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I do it all when my friends come to town. I like to gauge their interests and mood, and depending on what they’re up for, we have a variety of options. If we’re feeling fitness-focused on a Monday, we might head to the Black-owned cycle studio, Vibe Ride, or opt for a workout in the Home Depot backyard for #MaxedoutMondays or a hike at Stone Mountain, after we can rest and head to r&b Mondays at suite lounge.
On a Tuesday, the choices are yours – it’s either Taco Tuesday at Traffic if you’re in the mood to turn up a lil, or we can check out One Pan Papis for their taco special on Edgewood if you prefer a more laid-back vibe.
Wednesday calls for packing your bag as we take scenic stroll through West Midtown, leading to the rooftop of the Bell Yard. Here, we enjoy beautiful views, craft cocktails, and take advantage of an open workspace. In the evening, we’re off to #HillAtl, where we join a lively community of fitness enthusiasts for an invigorating hill run.
Thursday we OUTSIDE, including standing on a couch, smoking hookah, and enjoying shots at Ember. Come Friday, we’ll immerse ourselves in live jazz at the High Museum.
Saturday means a leisurely walk through West Midtown, with brunch at one of my fave spots, Snooze. On Sunday, it’s a mix of spirituality as we attend church (still exploring for my ideal church home at this point), followed by a Sunday Funday.
In summary, when you visit me, expect non-stop fun. no time for sleep – just Red Bull and vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to God. I believe that my dreams often serve as divine messages, and the recurring dreams about launching a business were impossible to ignore. They consumed my thoughts, leading me to finally seize the opportunity.
I owe a debt of thanks to my parents who have consistently instilled in us, their children, the importance of becoming independent and following our entrepreneurial instincts. I recall engaging in conversations with my father (Troy) during my early years. Even then, I had an aversion to strict rules, and he would humorously suggest, “Maybe you should consider a career as an entrepreneur since you don’t like following rules!” Additionally, I drew inspiration from my mother(Sheba), who delved deeply into various trades and successfully started her own businesses. Another source of encouragement came from my mother(Cleopatra), who consistently supported me from behind the scenes.
I must also extend my heartfelt appreciation to my sister, Dayja, who has been an unwavering source of support. Our conversations about taking risks and using my savings to pursue what I believed could have a significant impact were pivotal. She stood by my side, offering constant affirmation and expressing her pride in my endeavors. And also my sister Jayda who is my graphic designer, my events would not be a success without her vision and attention to detail. My village constantly affirms and pour into me and for that i’m grateful.
