We had the good fortune of connecting with Sage Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sage, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote is by Maya Angelou that says, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

I love this because it helps bring things that happen outside of our control into perspective. We don’t always have a choice about events that happen to us and this is why no one should feel ashamed or responsible because of things we didn’t choose; it’s not your fault. The good news is that we have the final say in our narratives and we can choose to not to be be reduced to something less that who we know we are.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is my voice and my words. I have always had a gift for writing and speaking. In fact, my book, Single, Savvy Sista’s will be released soon. What sets me apart from others is my speaking and writing style. There is a cadence to it, I am told, that draws people in. I also pride myself on speaking about the things we often ignore or only speak to minimally – this likely comes from my Psychology background. I want to help others, women especially and women of color in particular, feel comfortable with being their authentic selves:

I arrived at this place in my life after watching many organizations that I worked for paying attention to my words and implementing my ideas; after mentoring others and giving them suggestions about changes they could make personally and professionally and watching them reap the benefits of my advice and after listening to friends problems and providing solutions that worked. Sometimes I surprised myself! I eventually realized that my intellectual capital was worth something and that worth is realized every time I see my suggestions working to improve the lives of others.

I have had challenges as have we all but those challenges were a part of my journey; they brought me to this place and time and helped to develop my voice, my words, my motivational messages.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow; well there’s so much to see and do here in Atlanta but I am going to pretend it is near the holidays for this itinerary. I would take them to the holiday lights at the Botanical Garden, to City Winery for a concert, to Chateau Elan for a wine tasting. We would go Spaceman atop the Hyatt for the view and to chill one evening, probably on Saturday followed by a trip to Monticello’s for live music and I would take them to Steak 101 for dinner. and C&S on Roswell another evening. We would go th House of Hope for church on Sunday followed by brunch at Rays on the River. Whew; What a week! 😀

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is dedicated to my daughter for giving me inspiration through our conversations and, through her encouraging me to give voice to my experiences in order to help others.

This may be unusual to say however, I would be remised if I didn’t give a shout-out to those haters and naysayers. Without their doubts and naysaying throughout my life, I would never have found my voice
