We had the good fortune of connecting with Sade’ Hudspeth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sade’, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It’s A Look has been in the making for years and I didn’t even realize it. This isn’t my first rodeo in the beauty world having my own business, it’s this time it’s more personal and I’m doing it alone. I wanted to create a place for individuals who love “all things beauty,” from hair, fashion, makeup, photoshoots, even head to toe makeovers. My head was literally all over the place, with decisions I couldn’t make my mind up about for a salon to call my own. One night I had a dream about me owning beauty bars called “The Look.” The next day I woke up telling my fiancé of the dream I had and from that day on I was focused. I don’t think I’ve ever been that focused in my entire life. At the time I was doing hair out of my house and no one knew I had just signed a lease for my very own shop. I worked hard for a year and a half straight, keeping every bit of happiness and progress to myself before releasing my baby to the world. My fiancé and I worked day in and day out on the shop during the rise of Covid. I was also doing hair but I made sure nothing would get in my way of getting the job done. During the process of preparing It’s A Look, I had a lot of challenges but remained focused. Mentally and physically I was ready. My biggest challenge was the name and the look for the salon. Even though in the dream my salon was called The Look and the name was already taken, it was my mission to keep the word “Look” apart of the final name. It set me back more than a few weeks, and discouraged me a little but I stayed on myself to make sure I picked a name that suited me, my clients, and my shop. The name It’s A Look came about from me picking through 50 other names I came up with for my salon. I picked the name because its was edgy yet catchy, a name that would never get old, and you’d always remember. I needed the name to represent what I had to offer. Everyone knew the love I have for hair and fashion, so It’s A Look was the perfect fit. I thought the look of the salon through pretty easy until I realized how much my space was limited. “I can make anything work,” I told myself and before we knew it we got the job done. I knew since social media was a big deal now, I wanted to make sure my salon was photo ready no matter where you took your picture in the salon. All areas of my salon are picture worthy, even the restroom lol. With my all pink salon, I made sure the salon jumped out at you, and grabbed your attention.

What should our readers know about your business?
One of the things I’m proud of is It’s A Look is 1 of 1. There is no other place like It’s A Look. The private, appointment only salon; I cater to my clients needs, giving them the best experience possible. From the time you walk in you feel welcomed. They can come in to sit for their hair appointment and we end up talking and putting together a whole new look for them. I offer hair/wigs, fashion consulting, makeovers and more. It’ wasn’t always this easy, I had to make big adjustments. I wanted to incorporate all my new services at once but soon realized I couldn’t. Working alone is good but a solid team is even better. I worked alone for the almost 4 years and now it’s time to build my It’s A Look team. I learned over the years, it’s cool to do things by yourself but having that trustworthy solid team behind you, makes the process flow so smooth. It’s A Look now offers travel services for potential “out of town” clients looking for that perfect look.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In our city of Dothan, Al you can always hit up D&B Seafood or Pearl Lounge for food, drinks, music, dancing, and hookahs. If you don’t mind driving you can go to a city near by and try Release Lounge located in Enterprise, Al. They offer food music, drinks, dancing with a smoke free environment.

So if my girls came into town for One day of fun we would start the morning off right and early. We’d start with getting dressed, that morning; then head to our private brunch catered by Chef Kym. I would then take the girls to a pole dancing class with The Moxie Crew. We’d go back to the house to rest and get ready for the nights festivities. After we’ve rested, well get bomb makeup by Glam’d by D and then head to D&B Seafood for some dancing, drinks, good food, and hookah. The night isn’t over yet, so well take a drive to Release Lounge where we party, eat wings, and vibe to good music for the rest of the night.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Since I was young, I knew I was destined for greatness. My family, friends, clients, even strangers would always tell me how they can see me going far, doing bigger things than I’ve ever imagined. I do believe that the time for greatness is now and my future is looking so bright. I do know I wouldn’t have stepped foot into the beauty world without that big push to work in a salon from Mrs. Shae Johnson and Kishawna Brown. Her and her daughter came to me many years ago with the offer of a lifetime. I was hesitant at first and a little scared but I’m so thankful for them. Mrs Shae stayed on me and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for that. They pushed me to get my license and the rest was history. Im a well known stylist in my city and I stand on my work. My clients get all the credit because they push me to the limit. Giving me ideas and letting me take them out of their comfort zone. Giving my clients that extra boost of confidence makes me go even harder.
