We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Player and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabrina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The “Moon” in MOSAIC Moon honors my late husband’(nicknamed Moon)who lost his battle with brain cancer. My sisters took me to a Paint & Sip and later I realized that the 2 hours we painted was the first time I didn’t think about my pain. I wanted to do that for other people. Painting is a great therapeutic escape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Many things inspire how we come up with our art. I always make sure that we create something that our customers can have fun painting. I consider it, recreational art. We are well known for our unique way of teaching multiple pieces at once, instead of just one or two pieces. Our customers love it! Being an entrepreneur has been a challenge; and continues to make me question my sanity. But I love it! We have maintained and worked really hard to create a sustainable model. I just continue to move forward no matter what. I also have to constantly reinvent some aspects of MOSAIC Moon, so that we’re working more efficiently. I am most proud of our decision to go completely mobile, as a solution to keeping MOSAIC Moon going. It was scary, and a really new idea. So new that there wasn’t a lot of businesses to research as I tried to learn the dos and don’t of a mobile Paint & Sip business. MOSAIC Moon- A Pop Up Paint & Sip Experience was established and it has been a great decision for me and the team. I’ve learned to start small. I started too big too fast. We had a Brick & Mortar studio more than 3000 square feet and had not yet acquired the client base to support the monthly responsibilities. It’s important that our customers recognize us and that we know who our customers are. It’s important that we stay focused and not hop on every Paint & Sip trend that looks like it’s making a dollar. We love to paint, and we love being independent, but it’s important that we make a difference when people choose us. We want them to have fun and forget their troubles; even if it’s just for a couple of hours. In 2020, we have had to regroup again. We started doing Virtual Paint Parties and business has grown exponentially. Being able to paint with family & friends from anywhere has become very popular. It will remain an option on our menu even as the world goes back to normal. We make it a lot of fun!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Dinner at Chops, Negril, Baltimore Seafood and Louisiana Bistreaux is always good. Drinks are good at Mulan’s, and The Cigar Bar.

The Aquarium is always a fun place to visit. All of the Tourist attractions from Auburn Ave to downtown, will be educational and a good time.
Little Five Points, Ponce City Market and Atlantic Station is fun shopping.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shoutout my daughter Yaya, sisters and former students, who didn’t blink twice at working with me for free to help me get MOSAIC Moon off of the ground.
