We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabrina Hernández A. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sabrina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up surrounded by art in all its forms. My grandmother, an art history and plastic arts teacher, and my grandfather, an English teacher with a deep love for music, immersed me in creativity from a young age. Music was a constant in my life—I sang with my cousins and aunt, and it brought us closer together. My mom, though an engineer, always made time to take me to art showings, theater performances, movies, and art fairs. These experiences shaped me, and I think, deep down, I wanted to hold onto those beautiful moments forever as tokens for the future.
Photography became my way of doing that. I love what I do because it lets me bring smiles to people’s faces and capture their emotions in a way that feels timeless. Over the years, I’ve worked with amazing people in studios and on my own, and I’m deeply grateful to those who trust me to be part of their most intimate and important moments. Being invited into their lives, even briefly, has taught me so much about relationships, love, and life.
Through photography, I want to help people see the beauty in themselves and the world around them. For just a few hours, I hope to show them my perspective—a world filled with light, color, and meaning. My goal is to create memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Photography has also taught me the importance of preserving memories. Time moves so quickly, and being able to hold onto moments, both good and bad, is something I cherish deeply. I grew up in a household where every family had a big box of printed photos—snapshots of childhood, loved ones, and milestones. Those boxes are treasures. In a world where digital has largely replaced prints, I feel it’s my duty as a photographer to keep this tradition alive.
I knew from a young age that I wanted art to be part of my life, but it wasn’t until I picked up a camera that I realized how I could express my view of the world. Growing up in Venezuela, I was surrounded by breathtaking beauty—its people, culture, and landscapes—and I wanted to share it. Photography gave me a way to hold onto that beauty and stay connected to the people I love, even when life has taken us in different directions.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has been a journey of passion, growth, and discovery. I started as an art assistant straight out of college, eager to learn and immerse myself in the creative world. Those early experiences shaped me profoundly—I not only met high expectations but often exceeded them, becoming the in-house photographer for Concept-McCann and helping with creative campaigns for their corporate identity.
What sets me apart is the way I connect with people. I’m not a conventional photographer. My sessions aren’t confined to studios (unless it’s truly needed). Instead, I love meeting people outdoors, getting to know them, and making the experience natural, fun, and comfortable. I guide them every step of the way, ensuring they feel confident and look their best. I believe everyone is photogenic—they just need the right photographer to bring out their unique beauty.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work on a variety of creative projects, including photography, social media content, and rebranding campaigns with prestigious clients like Empresas Polar, Oscar Mayer, and Ron Carúpano Venezuela. These experiences have helped me grow both personally and professionally while collaborating with amazing teams and learning new perspectives. But what I cherish most are the moments I get to capture—intimate, emotional, and meaningful memories that people trust me to preserve forever.
Getting to where I am today wasn’t easy. Starting in Venezuela, I faced many challenges, from economic uncertainty to establishing myself as a creative professional. But I leaned into my passion, stayed resilient, and always sought ways to grow. I’m proud of my ability to adapt, collaborate, and continuously learn—whether it’s through formal mentorship or everyday interactions with clients and colleagues.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way have been invaluable. I’ve come to understand that creativity isn’t just about talent—it’s about empathy, connection, and perspective. It’s about seeing the beauty in people, moments, and the world around us, and helping others see it too.
At the heart of my story is gratitude. I’m deeply thankful for the trust people place in me to capture their memories, and I don’t take that lightly. Through my brand and work, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the fleeting beauty of life and to preserve the moments that matter most.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit, we’d have such a great mix of good food, fun spots, and just relaxing. I’d start by taking them to Yeppa in Midtown—it’s this amazing Italian place where the vibe is so lively and the pasta is unforgettable. Since I love Asian cuisine, we’d definitely explore some of my favorite Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai spots. There’s something special about sharing a spicy bowl of pho or some sizzling Korean BBQ, and I think they’d love it.
For hanging out, we’d hit places like Canton, The Avalon, and Vickery. Canton is really charming, perfect for a chill day with lots of little shops and cafes. The Avalon is ideal for spending the whole day—shopping, grabbing coffee, and maybe even seeing a movie. And Vickery has such a cozy community feel, perfect for evening walks or dining al fresco.
Honestly, I’m a homebody, but I’d make sure we have meaningful experiences, like sitting outside with coffee and chatting about life, checking out some local live music, or just exploring new places together. It’s all about creating those simple, memorable moments.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey wouldn’t have been possible without the love, support, and inspiration I’ve received from the people in my life. First and foremost, I want to recognize my mom. She raised me on her own and taught me to be independent and resilient, just like she is. From the very beginning, she believed in my passion for photography and never doubted my choices. She let me use her camera when I was starting out and even bought me my first professional camera. Her unwavering support and faith in me have been the foundation of my career.
I also have to thank my grandmother and grandfather for immersing me in art and music growing up. They nurtured my creativity and taught me to see beauty everywhere.
The people I’ve worked with in the studio and the incredible clients who’ve trusted me to capture their most intimate and meaningful moments also deserve a huge thank-you. Their openness has allowed me to grow as an artist and taught me invaluable lessons about relationships and life itself.
Finally, I’d like to recognize my roots in Venezuela. The beauty of the people, the culture, and the landscapes there has been a constant source of inspiration for me. It’s a place that taught me to see the world through vibrant colors and to find beauty even in the simplest moments.
These influences have shaped who I am as a person and an artist, and I’m forever grateful for the role they’ve played in my journey.
