We had the good fortune of connecting with Sabia Wade and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sabia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been entrepreneur minded. As a Black, non-binary person with disabilities, I have had a lot of negative experiences working for others. I knew the only way to create the life that I wanted, was to work for myself. I’ve tried many things over the years – some things didn’t work – others did and were very successful.

In 2018, I created For the Village, Inc, a San Diego based non-profit providing free & low-cost doula services to the community.

In 2019, I created Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, an inclusive & accessible focused doula training organization.

The idea to start Loads of Pride was influenced by my passions & my current businesses. Reproductive justice is connected to all things – wealth, career, passion, health, stability, equity of care, and so much more. Loads of Pride (LoP) is a trucking company centered around creating space and employment opportunities for BIPOC and queer community members. Through a focus on hiring from communities that identify as BIPOC, queer, non-binary, trans, and individuals who were previously incarcerated, or are of Veteran status, we are opening up streams for financial stability through jobs in the trucking industry to influence wealth redistribution, self-directed employment, and security, one load at a time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes me most proud is that I am able to give others work, to pay people to do things that they love, while I’m also supporting a mission that I stand for.

The challenge in the past year has been strategizing in an unpredictable economy – this has been true for all of my businesses. With Loads of Pride specifically, the challenge has been entering a market with our specific mission in mind. When you’re building a company with a mission of inclusivity, you have to be selective about the ways in which you move – who you partner with, how you advertise, etc. But I have deep belief in the mission and intention is crucial to success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a dog mom, so my favorite spots revolve around nature walks for the dogs to get outside. Stone Mountain Park Lake would definitely have to be on the top of the list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My life is full of so many amazing people. Literally everyone who I work with is a part of this story…it’s a team effort. My mom, LaShayla, and Raymond, my assistant Davina, Shon, Lauryn Williams, Erika Davis, Davinah Simmons, JB Bruce, Ericka Hart, JB, Venice, Britt, my therapist, my liberation guide Michelle, there are so many more, I could go on forever.
