We had the good fortune of connecting with Sa Jules and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sa, why did you pursue a creative career?
Arts actually chose me. I thought I was just being normal throughout the day, dancing, mimicking scenes I had seen on television, using my dolls and stuffed animals as my audience and all the while my mom noticed a natural gift in me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’ve always been a creative. I started out young with dance and acting which eventually lead to creating and building things around the house. I knew I didn’t want to work for someone my entire life and wanted to be able to set my own schedule. I used my artistic and creative side to come up with my business Jules Royale, which really started by accident. I have really dry skin and those store bought lotions just weren’t working and were beginning to cost too much. I did my research on how to moisturize my skin and came up with the perfect blend of butters and oils.
I posted my creation on social media(not to sell) because I was proud of myself and ending up receiving an amazing response and people interested in buying. This is how my business was born.

The road has not been easy, but it has been with it. I really desire to march to the beat of my own drum so I always roll up my sleeves and get to work.
Being a business owner, you constantly face challenges of low sales, marketing issues, a major spike in sales which may cause orders to be backed up(this is a good thing), long days and nights, having to please everyone, being the creator, accountant, marketer, delivery service, etc. I stick with it because I set my own value and worth. I never want to be in a situation where a job can fire me for whatever reason and I’m left trying to figure out how I’ll pay my bills or eat.
My mother(RIP), my sister and my son are really my motivation. They believe in me and encourage me when I have my moments of wanting to throw in the towel.

Jules Royale is my baby and all of the products are made by me with natural ingredients and no harmful chemicals. My products will leave your skin feeling moisturized, soft and silky.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I am a poet, I happen to know a lot of other entertainers in the city and surrounding areas so I’d definitely invite my friend out to check out a live show such poetry, a play, or comedy show. We’d dine a couple of times at a local restaurant but I cook the other times because I love cooking. We check out the various historical places around town including the James Brown statue. There are some great murals downtown as well. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, Dixie(RIP) Tasha, my sister and Devonte Tyree, my son. Each one of them have loved me unconditionally and encouraged me from the very beginning. I love them unconditionally for that and would move mounts for them.
