We had the good fortune of connecting with S. Elle Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi S. Elle, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to own a diverse group of businesses that have direct impact with longevity. With this current business and non profit, it was coming out of my valley season in life that I asked God, if He blessed my current businesses in overflow that I would take a percentage of that and be an asset for the black community. Realizing that there aren’t many resources for working class men and women, to help them during financial crisis; I wanted to create an organization to do just that.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Passion Funding Purpose Inc, is a privately funded non profit organization, created to help working class Black/African American men, women and families. In the black community there are men and women who get up daily driving in chaotic traffic to work, arriving to an overly worked and possibly underpaid/under appreciated job that doesn’t met all the means needed for their home. There aren’t many if any organization that is readily available to these individuals without there being road blocks, demeaning processes or procedures that they simple cannot meet. I wanted to create an organization that helps bridge the gap financially in such homes where you have hard working people who have hit a rough patch. Our organization help with rent/mortgage/ utilities, transportation, groceries, healthcare, childcare just to name a few.

At the age of 16, I knew I wanted to be a Realtor and business owner. Over the years I have been licensed as a Realtor for over 15 years, owned several Retail stores (Charlotte, NC), a small business strategist firm that helps business owners launch and grow their current business concepts or individuals already in business but who have hit a brick wall- we help strategize their move for optimal growth.

Building a business is never easy. It’s exciting, scary, fun, dreadful and rewarding all at the same time. Business is never one dimensional, you are always growing and learning no matter how many years you’ve been in business. One thing that is vital is having trusted people around you that respect your vision and wish you well. I often say, “the best time to make friends, is before you need them”. And in business you will always need good friends to help you propel through.
What I’m most proud of as a woman in business, is that my son has a legacy to look to for direction. I’m proud that I will leave something in this world that can continue after me yet it exist because of me. I’m most proud that I never gave up!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in Atlanta for me and my friends from brunch anywhere from Twisted Soul to Gocha Breakfast Bar, to light shopping around the city at a few black owned establishments (Honey Pot Shop or Beautiful You Wellness Spa), to lunch at Bar Vegan (Ponce City Market) or kicking back at The James Room or C C Social House. The weekends are catered to brunch and day parties after a nice workout at a local gym (Steel Mill Gym preferably). A causal stroll through the park for some good people watching or finding an outdoor festival is always worth it in Atlanta.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could Shoutout more local businesses or affiliates but I’d like to Shoutout those who have added to who I am today & continuously becoming…

God blessed me with a mother whose so nurturing and always extending grace and for that I thank her for. He blessed me with a group of friends who are my FAMILY, who always believe in me even during my lowest season, they still had faith in me that I could still succeed. A group of people who help keep me balanced while on this journey; K. Fisher-Grace, M. James, A. Sharp, L. Jones, Dee Shaw, Atty D. Allen, J. Nicks-Batts, A. Criss, I. Onaje-Johath, K.Hart, Atty T. Gates, L. Minniefield, L.Reese, Donovan Seldon… thank you all for helping me on this journey over the years and giving me what I need “in your own special way”, to build this legacy.
