We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan Doss and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ryan, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The decision to specialize and operate in a niche industry has been one of the most valuable decisions I’ve made. Limiting your client base is not common in public accounting, but that decision has produced competitive advantages. I am able to focus my time, research, and expertise on the food and beverage industry and my clients appreciate that.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Provisions Accounting is one of only a few CPA firms in the country that works solely with Food & Beverage clients. Its creation resulted from combining prior work experience as a tax accountant and later as a CFO to a nationwide restaurant group. The idea of Provisions was so natural that it seemed to happen overnight, but in reality, its creation took almost 15 years.

More than anything, I enjoy working with clients that are starting a restaurant from scratch. Providing financial guidance to the creative restaurant owners has been one of my greatest pleasurers. On a similar level, I can relate to a Chef that had an idea to do something new and different and took a risk starting a new restaurant.

Provisions is a full service CPA firm that offers everything from bookkeeping and payroll to complex tax filing and consulting. We are not the firm that just files your tax return every year. We aim to be a true partner…someone who you can discuss food cost, menu pricing, and staffing issues. Focusing solely only on F&B means that we’ve probably encountered a similar issue and perhaps can help solve it quickly and hopefully with the best outcome.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would have to start with a Braves game followed by food and drink at Superica at the Battery.

Next day would be food at The Optimist and fun at Painted Duck

Traveling outside the city a little, I’d head over Covington to see the location of some of GA’s film industry and have dinner at City Pharmacy.

From there we would likely head to Athens for some local beer at Creature Comforts and Akademia.

I’d love to round out the trip with a show at the Fox Theatre…and of course more food nearby!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Dana. She has been my biggest encourager and source of motivation. As an entrepreneur and business owner herself, she helps keep me centered on what matters in life.
