We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruth Nascimento and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruth, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I arrived from Brazil five years ago, I started working as a house cleaner, which I did for about a year and a half. I realized that I didn’t want to continue cleaning houses; I came to this country to grow. That’s when I decided to invest in the nail industry, specifically nail extensions. However, I wanted to bring the Brazilian touch to it – beautiful and well-done nails. I noticed that there was a demand for unique and intricate nail designs that weren’t commonly offered in the local market. This inspired me to start my own business and offer nail services that catered to the diverse tastes of my clients, incorporating the Brazilian flair that I grew up with. I wanted to create a space where people could not only get their nails done but also experience a taste of Brazilian culture. Starting my own business has allowed me to pursue my passion, showcase my skills, and contribute to the growth of the nail industry in this new country. It’s been an exciting journey so far, and I look forward to expanding my business and continuing to provide top-notch nail services with a touch of Brazil.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am proud to say that I have come a long way and I am grateful to be in a country that allows me to pursue my dreams and be my true self. As a mother, I have discovered an immense strength within me. I have also tapped into my entrepreneurial side and realized that I had a passion for creating beautiful nails. This led me to open my own nail salon, Pink Me Up Brazilian Nail Salon.

It has definitely not been an easy journey. I have faced numerous challenges along the way, but I have never let them deter me from my mission. One of my main goals is to change the perception of nail extensions in the United States. I want everyone to experience and enjoy beautiful nails like they have never had before.

I know there are still many obstacles ahead of me, but I am determined to overcome them. I want the world to know that I am driven, dedicated, and committed to providing exceptional nail services. My brand, Pink Me Up, represents quality, creativity, and a unique approach to nail care.

I have learned valuable lessons throughout this journey. Persistence and perseverance are key. It is important to surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, friends, and family who believe in your vision. Embracing challenges and learning from them is crucial for growth and success.

In summary, I am proud of how far I have come and the business I have built. I am excited to continue making a difference in the nail industry and offering an exceptional experience to my clients.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband, who has always been a source of encouragement for me from the beginning. He never let me give up and has always believed in my abilities. I also want to give credit and recognition to my three children, who I love dearly. They have been a constant source of motivation for me to keep pushing forward and pursuing my dreams.
