We had the good fortune of connecting with Russ Yeager and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Russ, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Every year going back to school shopping I had to get the “husky” pants and I hated it. I can also remember going to the pool with my friends, who all seemed to have flat stomachs and abs.
I had to decide if I was going to get teased, or keep my white t shirt on and still get teased.
After an incident taking home movies with our brand new VHS camera, I decided I was going to figure out how to be one of those fit muscley guys with abs like I saw in the magazines.
I had some ok success on my own, but never reached my goals.
After college, I took a desk job as a CPA. I was working long hours and enjoying too many happy hours and business dinners, and started working my way back to the “husky pants.”
At 27 years old, I decided to finally get this part of my life taken care of. I made a true decision and commitment, which I have learned, is the only way for real change to occur.
I entered an international physique transformation contest and hired a coach. In just 12 weeks, I reduced my body fat percentage from over 20% down to 5%.
I won the contest, got sponsored by a supplement company, and got to be a sponsored athlete at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic.
People saw the changes in me and started asking if I could help them do the same thing. I did and this is how I launched my career as a Fitness Professional.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Shortly after winning the physique competition, I started training people in person, as well as online. This was in 2002 before online coaching was even a thing.
I wanted to create an experience that was different from all of the big box gyms, bootcamps, and large group training facilities, and opened a private personal training studio called Fitness Together.
Today, we have two locations in Dunwoody and Johns Creek, GA. We specialize in providing one on one private personal training performed in individual training suites by a team of professionals.
Everything we do is customized to each client’s needs and goals, and we take a comprehensive approach including not only the personal training, but also nutrition coaching, mindset coaching, and accountability systems.
I have learned that people are happy to pay a premium for a service that is customized to their needs, where they feel safe, and where true customer service and an incredible experience is consistently provided.
It’s not difficult to stand out from the competition in a world where these qualities are so rare, and so many companies are focused on volume and efficiency at the expense of service and value.
When Covid hit and we were shut down, we were forced to figure out how to do virtual one on one personal training. At first, we thought we would make it work until we were able to open again, but were almost shocked to see how many people loved doing the virtual workouts!
We have now expanded our online virtual training and coaching all over the US and into Europe and Australia!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
At this point in my life being 47 years old with 3 little kids, my life pretty much consists of focusing on my faith, business, health, and family.
I am pretty much a “homebody” lol, although we do really enjoy going to downtown Alpharetta with the kids. They have some amazing restaurants and a great open green area where the kids can play while mom and dad enjoy a drink.
I know there are some amazing cool places in Buckhead and closer to downtown, and my wife and I venture out maybe once or twice a year, but not enough to make recommendations.
For the most part, we stick in the burbs.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had so many people in my life that have supported me and believed in me, even more than I believed in myself.
Both my mom and dad made a huge positive difference in my life, and I didn’t’ appreciate just how much they both did for me until I had children of my own.
Skip LaCour was my coach and mentor who helped me get in the best shape of my life and win the International Physique Transformation Contest.
Grant Cardone and his team have helped my grow my business and wealth tremendously, as well as challenged me to think 10X bigger!
Tony Robbins has been a big influencer on my life in terms of personal development.
I am a self proclaimed “personal development” and “growth” junkie so there are many others, but number one above everyone else, is my wife Emily.
She believes in me and supports me no matter what. She is my biggest fan and has my back at all times.
Emily is also a powerhouse businesswoman, herself, and all around “SuperMom”
