Meet Rosemary Oglesby-Henry | Super Leader: Leader of Leaders

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosemary Oglesby-Henry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rosemary, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Rosemary’s Babies Co. is known as a Best In Class organization. The most important factor behind our business is “Rosemary’s babies,” the families we serve. Our mission is to help these teen parents master the concepts of self-leadership to leave a legacy. The success of our brand and our babies are our intentional efforts to live, work, and lead by example. Our beliefs and values are core to the success of our brand: Integrity. Respect. Transparency. Leadership and Equity.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others? I kind of laugh because I can’t see what others see. I wish I could. I believe my ability to “be who I am” truly sets me apart. I never forget where I came from; this holds me accountable and keeps me humble. I walk completely and utterly by faith and try to find the lesson in every failure, “What is God calling me to do” “How can I use this lesson to move my business forward?
How did you get to where you are today professionally? But God! I had the unique experience of never working a minimum wage or fast food job. I always stepped outside the box challenging myself personally, professionally, and educationally. Being a life-long learner has been vital to my success as I worked to scale Rosemary’s Babies Company as well as pull me up as some say “by the bootstraps.” I believe education (secondary or other) is vital to professional excellence. There were so many things I was forced to go research on my own because I had limited resources to pay or hire someone.
Overcoming adversity, trauma, and pain is never easy. It is damn near impossible. You can forgive but you never forget. You can move past situations or learn to cope but it may seep out in other ways; so I found you must take it one day at a time. Own your part in your consequences from the choices you made. Find balance, clarity, and peace in situations where you had no choice like having a father on drugs, being born in the system, or being born in sub-par circumstances that resulted in a life of struggle. Understanding that as long as you have breath you have the ability to change your outlook. Cry for one minute, one hour, or one day but the next get up and keep moving. Never give up! Barriers can’t break you.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? Rosemary’s Babies, the organization with the funny name, was born from love and a desire to heal. I was a teen parent and to walk alongside others isn’t just a passion but a purpose that God foresaw in my life long before I did. To use my life experience in unison with my education to build an impact organization that is so needed nationally is humbling. Our story, our success, and our continued efforts are motivated by the young parents in our program who trust us to be there. RBC makes no promises other than to be there even when there is nothing we can do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would begin daily grabbing a cup of coffee at Black Coffee in Downtown Cincinnati. We’d tour the Freedom Center, Taft Museum of Art, Black Music Walk of Fame. We may grab a couple of brews at Esoteric Brewing Company then pick up some swag at Black Owned, Good Company, and Originalitees. Depending on the season we might catch a Cincinnati Bengals or FC Game. We’d eat dinner at a few of my favorite restaurants All in One Occassions or Wing Champ.
For the best hang out, we might visit Nostalgia or The Banks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To change a generation we must be intentional in reaching back to lift up others. When women and men are vocal in sharing their stories, experiences, triumphs, and favor that God has placed on their lives it can change the trajectory of someone else’s life. I would like to give credit and a shoutout to the women who look like me and don’t look like me who were teen parents and persevered giving me permission to do the same. Women like these Legendary Roses: Dr. Karen Bankston, Mary Miller, P Ann Everson Price, Cathy Hughes, and my grandmother Rosa Lee Figgs.
