We had the good fortune of connecting with Rose Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rose, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After over 40 years building an accomplished career in the corporate world, I felt ready to embark on a new entrepreneurial venture focused on my passion – empowering aspiring authors to share their stories.
With an extensive background spanning supply chain management, program management, financial services, and more, I had developed strong business acumen and leadership abilities. However, as a woman of color, I continually encountered limitations and the glass ceiling in the corporate environment.
I knew I had more to contribute, which led me to launch my publishing services company. As an avid reader and published fiction author myself, I understand the challenges writers face in getting their work out into the world.
Leveraging my MBA education and decades of experience, I provide aspiring authors with the coaching, editing, and publishing support they need to bring their book ideas to life. My services range from honing the manuscript to securing distribution through major channels.
As an established fiction writer, I have an intimate understanding of what it takes to craft truly compelling narratives that capture readers’ imaginations. My own success as the author of the captivating novel series “The Chronicles of Integrated Friends” has given me firsthand insight into the art of storytelling.
My goal is to use my perspective as an accomplished author to help other writers enhance their skills and bring their unique stories to readers. As someone who has experienced the struggles and triumphs of writing a book, I can provide unmatched guidance to writers aiming to find and refine their own distinctive voice. My hands-on experience gives me special insight into this craft that I now leverage to empower other authors.
I’m thrilled to be combining my business expertise with my passion for writing and publishing. By offering aspiring authors the tools, resources, and mentoring they need, I aim to make publication accessible for storytellers from all backgrounds. I look forward to empowering writers to share their unique perspectives with the world.
What should our readers know about your business?
At Ozion Publishing Group, our mission is to cultivate authors. We offer collaborative 1:1 coaching for aspiring writers and self-publishing guidance. We have publishing packages for authors who want us to handle everything. We also provide workbooks like “The Aspiring Author’s Workbook” and “The Self-Publishing Workbook” to guide you through the process.
Our newest addition is a 60-day journal for writers. Designed to nurture aspiring authors, it features daily affirmations and prompts to boost confidence and get creative juices flowing. Whether you’re working on a novel or building a daily writing habit, this journal provides motivation and guidance to help you find your inner storyteller.
My own experience as an author gives me insight that informs the tailored coaching I provide. I want people to know it’s never too late to pursue your purpose. With perseverance, you can align with your passion. My goal is to diversify voices in literature by helping underrepresented authors share their stories. I’m thrilled to live my dream and inspire others to boldly follow theirs.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To kick things off, we’d spend the first day in downtown Atlanta seeing the sights. We’d check out the World of Coca-Cola, browse the Georgia Aquarium, and sample tasty Southern cuisine at Mary Mac’s Tea Room. In the evening, we’d head to Ponce City Market for dinner at Botiwalla and rooftop drinks at Skyline Park overlooking the city.
The next day we would explore the arts and culture of Atlanta. We’d tour the High Museum of Art to see their impressive collections and exhibitions. Then we’d walk around the Atlanta Botanical Garden to take in the beautiful greenery and seasonal flower displays. That night we’d catch a show at the Fox Theatre to experience this iconic performing arts venue.
Midweek would be all about experiencing the diversity of Atlanta’s food scene. We’d grab breakfast at the Flying Biscuit Cafe, then head to Piedmont Park for the farmers market. For dinner, we’d explore Buford Highway’s international restaurants, like Vietnamese pho or Ethiopian injera. To satisfy our sweet tooth, dessert from Morelli’s Gourmet Ice Cream would cap off the night.
On Thursday, we’d spend the day thrifting and boutique shopping, Afterwards, we’d head to the Beltline at Ponce City Market for happy hour at the rooftop bars. Later, we’d check out a show at Eddie’s Attic or stop by Orpheus Brewing for a few craft beers.
For our last day, we’d escape the city to see the rivers and waterfalls. On the drive back, we’d stop at Jaemor Farms for peach ice cream and fresh local produce. Then we’d unwind with a spa day followed by a fun night out dancing and bar hopping to end our week on a high note.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, my family – especially my daughter – who have always encouraged me to pursue my passion for writing. Their unwavering love and support kept me motivated even when the road got tough. I’m eternally grateful for the role they’ve played in helping me achieve my dreams.
I also want to dedicate a heartfelt thank you to my dear childhood friend Rochell Chapman Holliness. For decades, Rochell was my biggest cheerleader, continuously pushing me to publish my work. Although she sadly passed before getting to read my finished novel, her faith in me was instrumental in giving me the confidence to put my writing out into the world.
Finally, a special thanks goes out to the aspiring writers out there who make this journey so rewarding. Your enthusiasm constantly renews my passion. I’m honored to play even a small role in helping you develop your skills and share your voice.
It’s the support of loved ones, mentors, and fellow book lovers that has allowed me to follow this dream of becoming an published author and coach. I could not have done this without the people in my corner cheering me on and believing in me. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Your faith in me means everything.
