We had the good fortune of connecting with Ronnie O. Melvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ronnie O., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We started this company to help small businesses grow and individuals thrive. Based on the common themes noticed in our communities, we developed a passion for wanting to educate and coach others. We strive to educate our clients on proper financial management, accounting, and tax topics. Our ultimate vision is to grow as our clients grow. That means working with clients on an individual basis and coaching them through the process of starting, managing, and growing the finances of their business. My partner and I both have Big 4 public accounting and advisory experience where we have helped large public and private companies excel. We aim to provide the same thought leadership and passion to small businesses and individuals who are in need of our assistance in pushing their business to the next level. As we truly believe that accounting is the language of business and the eyes and ears of management. With over 15 years of combined experience helping clients in various industries and sizes, we are equipped to help clients with business, tax, or accounting-related problems.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I am the Co-Founder of FRDM (pronounced “Freedom”) Financial LLC an Accounting and Tax Consulting firm that helps individuals and small businesses solve their accounting, tax, and business strategy needs. FRDM Financial philosophy is to educate our clients about their finances in order to drive more informed decision-making. Thus, leading our clients to the path of financial freedom. We are a brand that truly believes in growing with our clients and putting them on the path to financial freedom via proper accounting management and tax planning. Some of the main industries we serve are real estate, personal fitness trainers, and trucking.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many options in Atlanta to choose so hard to say. However, being that I live in the East Atlanta area, I would probably start with taking a walk or bike ride on the beltline. We would start at the Madison Yards area and work our way to Piedmont Park. Along the way, we would either get Acai bowls from Playa Bowls or Margaritas and Nachos from Guac Y Margys. For dinner, I would do Patria Cocina in the Grant Park area. These are some of my regular chill go-to spots. For brunch and nightlife, there is so much to choose from around the city, where could you go wrong. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several individuals that I would like to recognize. First and foremost, my business partner Alexis Little, MBA (FRDM Financial LLC). She has been there with me from the start pushing our business forward. From a mentor perspective I would like to recognize a long-term mentor, brother, and friend Steve Clincy. He gave me my very first opportunity my sophomore year as a Tax Intern on his team. This experience gave me the kick start to my career and I have been winning ever since. My Alma Mater, The Illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (AGGIE PRIDE), has one the best business schools and accounting programs in the country. A&T introduced me the different paths within Accounting and exposed me to some amazing people and companies along the way. This exposure has allowed me to confidently be placed into rooms and travel to places that I would have never imaged growing up. Next, I would say my daughter, her conditional love and support gives me the drive to keep going when faced with adversities. Last but certainly not least, I would be remiss if I didn’t shoutout my Brother and fellow CPA De’Mario Black, CPA. We both run similar businesses but we still find time to push and support each other day in and day out. I could name others, but we would be here all day. I hope that I have made my family, mentors and friends proud and that I continue to be a shining example for future entrepreneurs and professionals to come.
