We had the good fortune of connecting with Roman Boylen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roman, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Once you can understand that the destination is not the goal. You can take the pressure off of yourself and actually enjoy the process. We as people are usually never satisfied. That being said, if you don’t enjoy the journey and expect the end destination to fulfill your soul. You just missed the entire part of what it took to get there and all of the beautiful small things along the way that makes a life well lived. The only way to assure yourself of falling short of reaching your goal is by giving up. Throwing in the towel and saying I can’t anymore. When you invest your time, money, and energy into something. You will have a clear indication whether or not to keep going. If your passion and soul is telling your heart that you must keep going to be happy then you have to follow it. Or else you will live the rest of your life playing the “What If” game. When you burn the boats and have the choice to either fail or succeed, people tend to succeed. Stop giving yourself the choice of giving up. Throw away the white flag and love what you do and do what you love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I began my modeling career around 2018. I had to privilege to travel the country modeling for so many great brands, companies and individuals. From 2018- 2020 I landed magazines, catalogs, websites, newspapers, and billboards. At this point I was still finishing up my senior year of college and I was taking plane flights every weekend to attend these photoshoots while flying back in time to be in class Monday morning. This was extremely tough, but I was down for the challenge. I ended up graduating and then began doing some extra work to see if acting was what I was truly passionate about. The first set I stepped on I was hooked. I was an extra on a lifetime movie and at the moment I had a goal to be in a film with my own character with lines. after 20 more extra roles came some student films and then short films. To soon be followed with a few feature films within my first year of pursuing my acting career. I learned that you have to be able to take rejection and to not take it personally. This is a numbers game and its simply business. Fast forward, today I have 4 feature films, 3 short films, 6 commercials and 3 music videos under my belt alongside over 100 photoshoots. One of the feature films is for a lifetime movie as well so that came around full circle.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wake up to the Egg Harbor Cafe. Then we would hit up Ponce City market to do some spending and delicious food eating. It’s a great place to walkaround and try new things. Now, we are heading to the belt line to get some exercise in because of how much we ate at Ponce. later that Evening we will plan a Braves game because the Truist Park is where it is at! If the night ends up going any further, we will hit up the club Havana for the night’s festivities and dance until they kick us out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
One of my major inspirations would be Matthew MCconaughey as an actor and philosopher. His riddles and metaphors are how I look at a lot of my life and is book, “Green Lights” was a beautiful story and life owner’s manual. His ability to sum up a story in a phase or a one liner that tells you as much as you need with something more to ponder on. From his spirituality, profession and morals he has been and will always be an inspiration to me.
