We had the good fortune of connecting with Rolesta Milian-Brooks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rolesta, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was truly a thought that came to me following an overwhelming influx of mothers reaching out to me concerning workouts. I started posting videos of myself working out hoping to encourage others as well as myself to keep going on my fitness journey after having my fourth child. Being freshly retired out the military, I had no job requirements to be fit anymore so it became an internal goal and my true passion for fitness was revealed. Seeing the amount of women/mothers I was motivating ignited the desire to start my own business. Within a week of the thought, I prayed, filed the paperwork, secured the proper credentials, and the support has been phenomenal throughout the process.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MILFS Training short for Moms Into Lifting Fitness and Support Training was created to inspire, encourage, and uplift women with an emphasis on mothers. After having children many mothers find time for self is put on the back burner and their life purpose is their children. This program was created to highlight self-love and self-care. Taking care of self is pertinent, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Setting an excellent example for our children requires setting and obtaining our own goals as well. This group is dedicated to women their confidence level building their bodies and loving self internally and externally. Some of the challenges faced with expanding my brand is learning to set boundaries. I am only one person and can’t allow myself to overload my plate. I have learned organization is required as well as listing daily priorities with a plan of execution. One of the proudest areas within my building is the beauty bar. My make up artist Nina Nicole Garcia and Esthetician Shunice Harris provide services to magnify the outer beauty. They are excelling in assisting me in delivering my vision of not only building up inner beauty with self confidence outer beauty with fitness & enhancing overall beauty from their services within our beauty bar. I also am in love with my affirmation mirror, all of my clients have written on the mirror affirmations. I have also created affirmations that we repeat at the end of our training sessions that remind us all to stay motivated. I want the world to know that mothers/women are beast. We are strong, courageous, and selfless daily. Our time for fitness is our safe space to fuel the superwomen that we exude to the world daily. I want my clients to always think of MILFS as their fueling station of strength and confidence. Strengthening Minds + Building Bodies = Creating Confidence.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The river walk is always a nice area that provides healthy eating options and fun exciting activities for friends and families. Houlihans is a lovely restaurant with tasty food options. Downtown area has a strip that offers countless areas to eat and drink, one of my favorite spots is Vertigo. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Growing up my dad definitely initiated my love for fitness. As a retired drill Sgt he planted a seed within me around the age of 5 and took me on runs with him as well as the proper technique of push-ups and sit-ups. Later on in life after having my second child I trained under Katrina Hill to get ready to take lead as a second lieutenant in the army. The way she motivated her clients with her upbeat leadership it what I admired the most. Moving into life as a retired vet I moved back home and found my new fitness home with Hybrid fitness under the leadership of Vincent Hunter he and his team felt like family and definitely taught me how to mold and shape my body through weights and nutrition. As my children moved into summer training I transitioned to personal training from Antwon Young and Lorenzo Jones at LDJ fitness their mentorship and training is what lead me to create MILFS Training. They motivated me and built my confidence up on another level and my heart will forever be grateful for them and the amount of time and guidance they imparted within me. Currently I train with Patrick Butler who is the younger brother of my very first trainer Katrina Hill (full circle). He is a phenomenal trainer that has taught me so much mentally through his ingenuity and shown me that my mind determines just how far my body will go. Cynthia Jones and Terrance Flowers have both been constant encouragers from the beginning in my training process and continue to pour knowledge into me on my journey. Every single one of these trainers were once in Columbus Ga. and have helped mold and shape me into the beast I am today. They each played a role of some sort in building me into the women that has fallen in love with fitness. I will forever love them and my city for this. We breed beast! They breed me so I can breed others. We are a force to be reckoned with so I could not go any further in my journey without first recognizing them.
