We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I created 5PillarsINC through self discovery. The moment I started taking accountability in healing from my trauma I thought of creating ways of helping a young person dodge certain pitfalls that I had encountered. I call it “breaking barriers to leave a bridge”.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
5PillarsINC is a program designed to help communities develop an overall sense of wellness through child development. We use original methods that help children develop awareness spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially while aligning it with academic standards.

These methods touch on topics like conflict avoidance, analyzing triggers, math statistics, accountability, basketball skills, word math problems using football knowledge, and financial literacy using real-life situations.

Our children have started companies, started on their local sports teams, and have become stars in the classrooms and at home. As a program we have taught in classrooms, rec centers, churches, and different events and one thing we learned is that our children are ready and willing its just that most times the adults aren’t. Our children have BEEN ready to learn about business, BEEN ready to learn about God, and BEEN ready for overall progress. We as adults often get scared or hesitant to open this knowledge pathway for them but would be judgmental when the child opens their own pathway to nothingness. Adults have to move around and start making more direct efforts towards youth development myself included.

We need the world to understand that children need the adults in their life to act as educators. Inform them instead of letting them run off. The only consistent black male mentor-ship program that gets funded yearly and on time is the juvenile justice center. If that’s our boys only hope then what does that leave black women with? What does that leave our future with? What does that leave the existence of black men with?

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m boring. For the past 3 years the only thing I care about is the development of children. I’ll probably get some food/beers go back to the place and binge watch videos on the Substantia Nigra.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The entire Mount Pleasant region of Northeast Ohio. The schools, teachers, rec centers, and community leaders have all played an active role in pouring into our youth and creating opportunities for their growth.
