Meet Ro Taylor: Veteran & Apparel Brand CEO

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ro Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ro, how do you think about risk?
Risks is something that a person will have to get comfortable with taking if they want to be successful in anything that they do. Risks has played a major role in my life because it has allowed me to bet on myself. As a person that loves to have life planned out down to the smallest details it took a lot of courage for me to enter the entrepreneur world but I always knew that I was so much bigger then a 9-5 job. That feeling led me to taking the biggest risk I ever took which was me leaving the military in HOPES of finding a job where I could feel more spiritually fulfilled while protecting my mental health. In comes Hair Loc’R. A job I CREATED for myself where I can feed my soul while creating dope merchandise for others to purchase. When it came down to risks and my mental health I knew that I was willing to jump over whatever hurdles in order to be genuinely happy, Hair Loc’R makes me genuinely happy so we’re here to stay for awhile.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Hair Loc’R was started in 2020 just off of the strength of me loving my Locs! Those that follow me on social media know that I love talking about my son, my man and my hair lol! A few friends and family members mentioned to me that since I love talking about my Locs so much that I should start a Loc Apparel Line for those with Locs, but with the start of the pandemic happening I just couldn’t see people fighting to purchase tissue and then heading to my website to purchase a t-shirt.

That was my first lesson that I learned really quickly once I launched Hair Loc’R, if there is a demand for it, customers will come even if there are lines outside of Target! So instead of making more excuses, I took that first stimmy check, ordered my inventory and started what is a now one of the dopest Loc Apparel Lines if I do say so myself! If I could tell the world one thing about my brand it’s that once you’re apart of the Hair Loc’R Crew, you’re like family! Over here we have fun, laugh and learn lessons. My social media family knows all about the highs and lows of me being a novice to the entrepreneur world and I have shared my journey with them since day one. I mean my Backless Hats are dope and my t-shirts are buttery soft, but I know that most of my most loyal customers come from people realizing that I am a real person that is on the journey of something great. I LOVE IT HERE!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to Shoutout 2 of my biggest life motivators! My mom is the first, thank you for never giving up on me when I was trying to find myself. From helping me move to Wisconsin with a 8-month old, to caring for that same 8-month old while I joined the military, to listening while I cry about a mean customer lol you are always there. Thank you mama. thank you. That big house with that wraparound porch is going to be yours one day, even if just for one night after I recover my AirBnB password lol!

Next I would like to shoutout my amazing husband, Immanuel P. Taylor. When we first met you saw just how stressed out I would be from my job and trying to carve out time for my son. Never did you get upset, you asked me did I trust you, I said “yes” and then you told me to put in my 2-week notice at my job. Little did you know that the military doesn’t recognize 2-week notices lol but you told me not to sign another contract and to do what I love. Thank you for allowing me time to figure that out. This life that I am now living feels like a dream and everyday I thank God that I opened that Facebook DM. I love you baby!
