We had the good fortune of connecting with Rjay Summers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rjay, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I can honestly say the most important factor behind the success of my brand has been my friends, family and social media! My friends and family always support me, and refer me to people. Whether that be for djing or when I sell plates. And social media is a huge part of my success because everyone is on social media. So it is very easy to get the attention of people you may not ordinarily come in contact with. You’re able to reach a much broader span of people on social media.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My two businesses are DJ J-Soinna DJ Services and Kitchen Whipz. I think what sets me apart from others in both businesses is the passion I put into the crafts when I do them. I try my best to put my 100% all into both of my businesses. I’ve faced obstacles on the way just like any other business owner but it all just makes you stronger! All you have to do is believe in yourself, and you truly can do anything you want to do in this World. I also think this is a great time to say never compare your life to anyone else’s or measure your success with theirs. We all reach the destination chosen for us when it is meant to, so don’t stress!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Colony Square. It’s such a good vibe out there, and I always have a great time. They have this taco spot in the food hall called Pretty Little Tacos. Best birria tacos you will find in the city, I’m willing to bet money on it. I usually get the oxtail or steak tacos. Either choice is good but I’ve also tried their ramen. It’s good too! I would also take them to Atlantic Station. It’s just always something to do down there. We could go to the movies, grab something to eat, do a little shopping. We would go to Toast on Lenox for brunch. Their food is so good and fresh. Everything was amazing when I went!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom. She’s my #1 supporter through any and everything, and I cannot thank her enough for that. A lot of my business ideas actually come from my mom. Funny thing is my mom is the one who brought the idea of me djing to my attention. She always knew I had an ear for music, and said she thought I would love doing it. She put me through DJ school, and from there I fell in love with the craft. I want to also give credit and recognition to my grandmother for always being there when I need her. My friend Starr for always supporting me, Shanila, Jada, Cori, and Chanelle. The list goes on and on. If you’ve ever supported me in any way, this shoutout is for you too!
